What is fastest and most optimal cost-effective method to go from airport to Jaco guys?

is it by bus? how often do they come and how long does it take? how much do they cost?

is it by taxi? how often will the ride be and how long will they take?

or is it by some type of charter travel van?

thanks all in advance

I would suggest that you go by INTERBUS......very reliable and reasonably priced, prabably in the $50-$60 range each way. Do a search, you will find a ton of info on them. If you look under the recent transportation and hotels section, you will currently see some ongoing threads about INTERBUS and the way to book them.

Certainly, the cheapest way is by public bus, maybe $8 to $10 each way.

The most cost-effective method would be by public bus. It stops by the airport on the way to Jaco. It costs less than $3, but I wouldn't recommend this method. I don't know if anybody knows exactly where that bus stop is, what time it stops there, or how you would know to hail it as it's passing through. So we'll go to the second cheapest option.

Your second best choice would be INTERBUS, like Zebra suggested. They can't do pick-ups at the airport for Jaco, only San Jose. So you would need to meet them at one of their pick-up points. The closest pick-up point to Jaco is the Hampton Suites just outside the airport in Alajuela. Interbus calls that stop San Jose Rio Grande (Alajuela). So you would need to book Interbus (San Jose Rio Grande to Jaco Jaco) at least 4-5 days before your trip just to be safe. Yes, you want to book Jaco Jaco, because there are 2 other points in Jaco that they drop off at. Once you arrived in CR,you would take a taxi from the airport to Hampton Suites. It should be only a couple of dollars.

The bad part is that there are only 2 buses daily to Jaco from San Jose, they stop for pick-ups at the Hampton Suites at 8:45am and 3pm. It's 2.5-3 hours with the rest stop it makes. The cost of IB is $25/person each way.

You can book them here: www.interbusonline.com

Great info, Orange.

Yes to all he said. I haven't travelled it yet, will later this week. I just made the Interbus reservation online, though note that their website is screwball (the window crashed when I entered final info and hit "enter" key) and best to follow up immediately to their "info" email, list your name and mention the key info --date and times you had entered to be safe so they can identify you.

In my case, I am staying a few days in San Jose before heading to Jaco, so they are picking me up at my hotel--La Amistad--at 7:40am.

The good thing is, the web site also has it set up to make return reservation as well. And they did get back to me within a couple hours to confirm that my "crashed" reservation did get through to them.

Also note, you are allowed one piece of luggage and one carry on; extra bag needs to be noted to them when you make the reservation and it is an extra $10 charge. I have a dress garment bag as well as a carryon bag so there was no way to avoid the charge, not a big deal to me.

Travel van will cost about $30 per person each way via Grayline. I had to hire a driver to get me from Jaco to San Jose Airport to meet my early flight time without losing a night at the beach (Beatle Bar). The driver charged $80. It beats a taxi which can be up to $120.

http://www.searchcostarica.com offers the service, through InterBus, but at a less expensive rate. As well, you can pay via PayPal.

PS: They have more times for the trip.....I just selected the first one...

Does anyone know how long it takes to get to Jaco by taxi or by rental car? Interbus and the public bus are cheap, but damn it takes a long time to get there from San Jose. Plus, I would rather be on my schedule rather than someone else's. Thanks in advance.

Totally depends on traffic. You are looking at 2 - 3 hours. I made it back in 2 hours but we had no traffic in the mountains. We had to slow down when we hit heavy rain outside of San Jose.
