I'm typing this email in my room using the Castillo's WiFi. It's the only place I ever stay in CR. El Silencioso has posted links to a lot of relevant posts about the Castillo.

Castillo is a good choice for a nice quiet safe place to stay. Location is great, staff is nice and cost is reasonable.

If that appeals to you, go for it. If you want a frat party atmosphere, pick someplace else like Presidente.

I find most folks seek a hotel with a style that matches their own personality.

Another thumbs up for Castillo.

I guess that I would rank the facility about mid-pack compared to what else is available. It is not the fanciest place you will find but not the most modest either. CRT VIP, cash & weekly discounts can really make the place a bargain in my book.

The rooms have hot water (No suicide showers! :? ), cable TV, WiFi Internet, telephone, keyed safe box (Not large enough for a laptop.) and some (Deluxe & up?) have AC but I never used mine. The furnishings are showing their age. The beds aren't the best I've slept on but they get the job done. Also, I rate my sessions by how far the bed has scooted across the room on the tile floor!

When I was there in May Darren had just acquired the material necessary to make new bedspreads for the rooms. They, along with the rest of the linens, could stand upgrading.

The staff are the best. People can make or break a place like the Castillo & the staff really make the place work! You should always feel at home there.

The breakfast is adequate. It gets boring after a while so sometimes I walk to the SL or downtown for breakfast.

The Gardens Resturaunt & Bar is adjacent to the hotel. Offers CRT VIP discount. Some chicas there sometimes.

I would not hesitate to stay there again.

I stayed there on July 3rd. I was in Room 6 on the second floor. No AC and 2 double beds. One the bed's mattress was extremely worn. It was a large room. Once you turn on the shower you have about 3 minutes to shower until the water starts to flood over into the bathroom. But the water is hot. The key safe is on the floor in a corner. You have to get on your hands and knees to access it. You can see through the floor into the room below. There were no blinds on the windows so plenty of light in the room at 6am. The hotel seemed kind of rustic and maybe I would have liked it if I had one the AC rooms. But staying in room 6 s*ucked and moved to the Morazon the next morning.

The new bedspreads have been placed in the rooms this week. I got mine several days ago..............broke it in already.

I would imagine you could buy the old ones for a pretty reasonable price.

Paco, My mistake. I meant to type in HDR and wrote Presidente instead. Mental aberration on my part.

Hotel Castillo is a great place thanks to superior managment with Darren at the top followed by all those he employs and whom you interact with.

The staff and facility go out of their way to please your every desire and make every effort to help you figure out what you need. You can use the hotels fridge in Darren's office, as an example, if your room doesn't have one. You can strike up a conversation with one of the "silent staff" who will see to it that you get the towell you need.

The value is beyond reproach: Free Wi-Fi; No chica fee; away from the grime of Del Rey; next door to New Fantasy; great breakfast; Garden's Restaurant a stumble from and to your room; security; color tv; etc., etc., etc., etc., including walking distance to large stores for supplies and sights and sounds which have nothing to do with the "hobby". Cheap cab fare to just about anywhere, etc., etc., etc. I like the place. If you're picky, just take your own sheets with you: I've been traveling with my own 500 thread count 100% cotton sheets for years....ok...I'm spoiled. So what?! Take my own pillows on many a trip a too.....and that's not just to Central America.

Want more detail, just pm me.....

Agreed, I stayed about three weeks in March, and I'll be back. Not the fanciest of rooms, but service was outstanding. I had a convoluted schedule and Darren extended himself to accommodate my needs. Good value, IMO.

I did feel that the Gardens Restaurant was over-priced and at the time they were pitching some 'club' membership that seemed bogus as all get out to me. Don't know if that is still the case. Hotel management and restaurant/bar management at the time were different. Restaurant/bar was leased to another group of individuals.

Steve, you're not old enough or rich enough to be so eccentric!

How do you manage to get away with it?
