The DOT, the U.S. Department of Transportation, has recently been given the green light to charge airlines fees when take-offs and landings are at the busiest times of the day at New York airports and at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

This premium peak fee would be in addition to the regular usage fees paid to an airport which partially comes from passenger ticket costs of about three percent. Until now, the peak supplement could not be charge until major building projects such as terminal and runway work was completed.

New supplements levied onto the airlines by airports are likely to be passed on to travelers seeking to fly at peak times of the day. Don't say we didn't warn you!
