Anyone know if there are any apartments for rent near downtown? Need for about 10 days. Also, who is Nixon (did a search but didn't find much)??

Here's a short list, which is not at all complete:

Apartamentos Sudamer. About 7 blocks S. of the Hotel Presidente, very close to Bar Idem (massage/bar/sex) and Pantera Rosa (strip club). Good rates, great owner/operator. Secure.

Hotel Rex: Three blocks from Zona Blue on c. 1 and av. 7. Rates for two weeks to two months. Secure, kitchenette, new beds.

Scotland Apts.: Closer to San Pedro than to downtown, but still a good location.

Rincon de S. Jose: One apartment attached to a hotel. Hotel is not chica-friendly, but apartment is sort of "don't ask, don't tell."

Casa Conde Apts.: A $5.00 taxi ride from the Gultch. Good reviews.

If you do a search here under any of the apartment names, you should be able to find lots of information. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that is a great list. Anyone actually rent one, how exactly is it done and who do I contact to rent one?

I'm actually looking for a 3 bedroom apartment but can work with a 2 bedroom and 1 bedroom too if rates are cheaper than hotels.

Thanks in advance!

El Silencioso has a good point.

In the meantime:

1. Sudamer: I have stayed there. Don't know if you'll find any 3 bdrm apts. there. The owner is Carlos Eduardo. His e-mail is
carlosedmena@yahoo.com . I don't know what the rates are now, but in 2005 I paid around $250.00/week for a large 1 bedroom apartment. :D

Scotland Apartments and Hotel Rex both have websites with contact information, as does Rincon de San Jose. Don't know about Casa Conde.

HTH.

I went over to check out the Hotel Rex for a friend and it's seems like a good deal. The rooms are pretty nice and the owner seems to be eager to please. The rooms have bathrooms with suicide showers and the mattresses are new, he told me. Most rooms have no windows, but this can be a good thing given San Jose noise levels. Jim rents by the week or month and his prices are quite reasonable. No problem bringing back 'company,' by the way. I live in this neighborhood and it's not bad. Like most places in San Jose, you'd be fine until later at night when you'd want to take a taxi.

I've stayed at Apartments Aranjuez many times. I's a nice plane, the building is less than 2 years old.

They have 3 sizes of two-bedroom apartments. IMO, the standard is big enough.
