I'm not really one to complain or praise business's, but I felt this one was appropriate. Many of you probably wonder, whats so good about these Asian airlines everyone keeps going on and on about? CUSTOMER SERVICE! To make a very long story short. On my last trip from JFK to Hong Kong, with stopover in Vancouver, the inflight entertainment in my seat died about 2 hours into things. After several attempts and various staff members searching through economy, business and first to find an empty seat for me, I was basically a sitting duck. Not really a big deal, we got to Vancouver roughly 3 hours later, and when I reboarded the entertainment was fixed and everything was A-OK. So fast forward, on my way home from Hong Kong to JFK. The ticket agent informs me that Ive been upgraded to business class. I ask why, because after 3 weeks of heavy drinking, Im far from the business savy look. Im informed due to my less then acceptable flight prior, they awarded me with an upgrade. Good stuff. ** So Im not really much of a business class traveller, I actually enjoy the random conversations of economy, and since Im on the smaller side of things I really dont find them uncomfortable either. But holy moly, business class on a CX flight was phenominal. The seats fully recline into a bed, you cant see anyone else, you have this sweet 19" or so LCD TV with endless movies and such, non stop top quality food with tons of options, and the best of all; unlimited haagen dazs ice cream. ![]() At this point Im thinking everything is squared away, but today I get a letter from Cathay Pacific, and the FLIGHT ATTENDANT further moved my "issue" along to whoever in Hong Kong, and I received ANOTHER business class upgrade to my Hong Kong - Manila flight in September, PLUS 150$ worth of inflight duty free vouchers. Makes you wonder how some of these US airlines have survived this long ![]() |

![]() Yep, I got upgraded on a Lufthansa 747 about 2 years ago coming from Europe. The seat turns into a bed. ![]() Btw, an gringa flight attendant would probably accuse you of breaking the damn thing and they'd try to make you pay for the repair. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have often told friends in the aviation business stateside that if the asian carriers got a stronger leg in the US market, they could put the majority of US carriers out of business. The mentality of US carriers really is idiotic. A few simple things could send thier margins skyrocketing. But instead they drag along playing the same games.I have 80 fights (40 roundtrip) between the US and Asia destinations under my belt.Usually Hong Kong, Tokyo, Jakarta, and occasionally Bangkok or Manila.Anybody who would fly a US carrier to SEA is failing Asia travel 101.Cathay is great, JAL is also a personal favorite, along with Signapore Air and when the pricing is good Korean Airlines. China Airways was my favorite when I lived in Taipei, but unless you can get a sweet deal with them the other airlines named above offer better service. |

Agree. Cathay is my personal favorite, for consistant great pricing, flight times and service. its hard to beat. JAL is my second favorite, but the prices are a bit hit or miss with my schedule. I know guys who fly AA or United exclusively, and having flown United myself, I dont know how they do it on a regular basis. Honestly, cant think of one thing that I can think of thats better about them. If it werent for the 500$ roundtrip ticket it would have never happened. Like I said, I dont expect alot at all, I dont complain under 99% of circumstances, but Cathay Pacific has been amazing on all levels to me. Im personally not a big fan of the Taiwan carriers, but they arent exactly bad. |

When flying business class on a Delta flight from Atlanta to Rio last year my entertainment system would not work. After 3 different flight attendants checked it out there was no hope to fix it. I was told " I'm sorry we can't fix it, why don't you read the flight magazine". Instead I popped the ambien a little bit earlier than planned. sincity |
