I meantt to put this up a while ago, but have been so busy the last few weeks that it slipped my mind.
I stayed at the Freebird in Suite #2 for 2 nights in mid-May. The room itself is nice. It's pretty big, very clean, and has a very nice bathroom. The bed is also very comfortable. The TV (satellite) has a ton of channels, but like somebody else mentioned, it's facing the couch, so you can't watch from bed. But you should be creating your own entertainment on the bed anyway.
It has a fridge, microwave, and I think coffee maker (don't remember). One thing that I liked was a small directory type of thing they have in the room with phone numbers to various places (other hotels, airlines, credit cards, and even some MP's I think). It comes in handy if you want to call a friend staying at the Prez.
Dennis, the owner, seems like a stand up guy. He is willing to help with whatever you need.
The rainy season cash rate for this suite is $58 + tax, so it's about $68/night. The other suite is about $10 more.
On Sunday, the city shut the water down (right in the middle of my phucken shower

). I called Dennis and he turned the reserve on, so I could rinse the soap off me. He has a reserve tank for this kind of thing. Very good idea in CR.
Another good thing is that it's very close (1.5 blocks) to mas x Menos supermarket. And the suite has a decent size fridge, so you can stock up on drinks, etc.
It's also pretty close to Del Rey, althoughI wouldn't recommend the walk at night. I almost had an issue with some youths as we were walking from the garage one night. They were looking at us hard, so my girl made me cross the street instead of walking past them. Probably a good idea, I wouldn't want to be responsible for killing anybody.
The only negative (for me) was with parking. It is located on a busy side street with no street parking during the day, so you have to park on Avenida 2, but you probably want to park in the garage overnight (if you ever want to see your car again). There is a 24hr garage on the same street a couple blocks up, between Central and Avenida 1. The price was 600¢/hour. One night I parked for 10 hours and paid 6,000¢ ($12)

.
If you have a car, you'll be spending $10-15 a day on parking, so you should factor that into the price.
I would definitely stay there again, if I didn't have a car.
