Post subject:  Hotel Presidente........need advice

The last three time I have emailed Hotel Presidente for reservations, sometimes as far out as 4 months........they are alwasys full.
What am I doing wrong, who is a good contact to email. I tried to book for two seperate weekends in October for my buddies, no rooms available.
I really do like this hotel, any advice greatly appreciated.

Part of the problem may be that the Presidente is undergoing some remodeling/renovation and will be for the next few months at least. Also compounding your difficulty is the fact that the Presidente is, even when full capacity is available booked heaviest on weekends. If you could do a mid-week trip instead, the situation might be different.

Many guys around here like the Clarion Amon Plaza. It's a 750 CRC ($1.50) cab ride to the Gulch, is very close to both Zona Blue and New Fantasy, and you can get a pretty good discount by booking your rooms through Nixon in the casino.

Sadly, the most popular "chica friendly" hotels are often booked months in advance. Check the list of CRT V.I.P. discount sponsors, including the Amistad, Amon Plaza, Sportsmen's Lodge, Hotel Freebird, Casa Vino, Hostal Maruecos, Hotel Castillo and the Presidente. Oh yeah...but you must present a paid V.I.P. membership card to get the discount in most cases.

Casa Vino might be a really cool option, depending on how many guys you're talking about. I could see three guys sharing it with no problem, if one could manage to sleep on the gigantic sofa upstairs.

Check the Hotels section here for reviews and other lodging ideas. Also seldom mentioned here but an option is the Hotel Europa and the Costa Rica Casino Hotel Morazan...right next door to the famous Key Largo and across the street from the Hotel del Rey.

Good luck.

I tried to get a reservation for October & was told they were accepting NO reservations for the months of sept. & oct. Was told major renovations are going on during those months & they would take no reservations. What few rooms they have they are keeping for tour & travel groups & wholesalers they work with.

Wendy & Maria are long gone from reservations @ the Prez.

The new crew is William, Alvaro, & Vivian.

I still couldn't get a room in October. :(

The Presidente used to be my favorite hotel in SJO. I have seen the hotel make many improvements from my first stay in Sept. 2001. I have stayed in the old section before it was renovated. I remember the jack hammer noise when they were building the rail ( 2002-2003) My last stay in Dec 2007 was great , however there was construction on the rail again. At this point, the hotel is very nice and I see NO NEED to keep inconvienceing(sp) the guests with more construction. Sure , it's a little noisey, but so is every hotel in SJO. My advice to the management is leave well enough alone. It's a great, nice, very clean hotel
