I always stay at the Hotel Fenix or the La Brisas Del Pacifico. Both are right on the beach and have pools. They are located a little south of town toward playa carillo.

thanks Zman. you obviously like Samara, so can you give me any more info on things there? am looking to relax and get somewhere typico and not so commercialized. need to practice my spanish so if most Ticos there don't speak ingles it's a plus. the possibility of meeting a non pro Tica or tourist is also something i'd look forward to or should i invite a guest? any other activities worth mentioning? thanks again!

Samara is my favorite beach place in CR. Not so over run by americans. If fact there are far more germans , canadians, italians there .

It is on a protected bay so the waves are not that big, only beginning surfing. But great for swimming.

The town is not that big, just the right amount of restaurants of all kinds. There is an excellent argentine grill right on the beach which has excellent CR beef. Yes there is such a thing.

The next beach south is undeveloped and is my favorite beach in CR. Playa Carillo.

I met a canadian woman there on my first trip there but I would not count on that during the off season but you never know. There is a Massage parlor tpe of place. It is called Mangos , it is near the hotels I mentioned. It is kind of a rough place with just a few girls who live on site. It reminded me of an old western saloon with the girls having rooms upstairs.
