Stayed at the Freebird one night before moving to the SL, and thought I'd share my experiences. I stayed in Suite 2 which is a large room with sitting area, bar, and refrigerator (see pics on website). Only stayed one night because the suites were full the other nights.

The Good:
Good location (3 blocks from HDR, 2 from Idem)
Very comfortable room
Great owners (Dennis and his brother Van are CRT guys just like us, who run a hotel for us)
Great rates, plus a CRT VIP discount (15%!)

The Bad:
No bar, no breakfast, no "common area"
Closet has ventilated doors and a skylight, letting in early morning sun (no way to keep the room dark)
Can't see TV from bed - only from couch

I considered this a good alternative and I would stay there again.

No Smoking? Say no more. But I suppose that will be a plus to many of you.

It looks like the only options at the freebird are the suites otherwise you have to share a bathroom.

Stayed in Suite 2 for 8 nights. Would definately stay there again. All the girls were very impressed, and Dennis was great. Rooms are much bigger than most and is very quiet. Easy walk to all of the places you must see. Will stay again on next visit.

I'll be at Freebird for Memorial Day.

Let's see:
Dennis was great on the phone.
I don't smoke.
I almost never bother turning on the TV.
I can walk to the Presidente for breakfast.
I can't handle more than 1 chica at a time.
If I have any offensive sunlight I'll find a sheet to pin up.
Great prices.

I'm not crazy about the bathroom situation (sharing) but I can work with it for 3 nights. I'm bringing a couple X-large T-shirts so the ladies have something to wear on their way to the loo.

OK, I'm all set. I'll post my impressions when I get back.

Thanks for the reviews and updates.

Uh, oh. I missed that little detail. I hope the ceiling fans do the job.

It can't be worse than the night in Pattaya Beach where my A/C went out. My "GF for the night" and I got pretty slippery. It was actually sort of fun sliding all over each other but the shower sure felt good.

Thanks for the reviews guys. I passed it on the way to Idem last week and was wondering if it was any good. Looks pretty secure with the gated fence outside.

As promised here is my review of Hotel Freebird. I was there over the Memorial Day weekend (3 nights).

The taxi drivers (and most of the girls) have never heard of this small hotel. It is 1/2 block south of the intersection of Ave 2 and Calle 11 (2 blocks south and 1 block east of the Del Rey). Calle 11 is one-way going north. Hotel Freebird will be mid block on your left between Ave 4 and 2. Look close because it sits back about 20 feet from the street between two larger buildings and you won't see the name unless you're looking right at it. There is a printable map on the website but bear in mind most taxi drivers can't read one.

There is a gate. You will buzz to get in the first time then Dennis will give you the code. Put it in your pocket so when you get home drunk and it's raining and you have a chica getting wet you'll be able to get in the first time you try.

The front has the office. Behind that is Dennis's living quarters then two more rooms (I think). You go down a very narrow walkway (between two buildings) to get to them and the other rooms (some of those "wide glide" chicas in the Del Rey would have a tough time getting down this path). It isn't even wide enough to fully open an umbrella.

You'll then turn into a room with washer/dryer, computer, two more bedrooms and two large bathrooms. Up one flight of stairs are rooms #4 & #5. I had #4. Above 4 and 5 are two more rooms (#6 & #7) but I was not up there.

If you are in the 5 rooms in the back (#3 thru #7) you will be using the two bathrooms in the little room where you first entered. No big deal, I never had to wait for a bathroom and I still enjoyed nice showers with both of my "dates" at night and again in the morning. These girls are flexible.

The room has the identicle furniture to the Presidente right down to the little glass table with two wrought iron chairs and the old brown, orange and cream-colored bedspreads and curtains (see pics on the website). Nice solid bed and a nice mid-sized fridge (bigger than a mini). I never turned on the TV so can't tell you about it. The room has a phone (didn't use) and a digital safe.

The room was dark enough in the morning with the heavy drapes and the ceiling fan was more than enough to keep it cool. They supply plenty of little bottles of shampoo and little bars of soap. There was no clock or radio (somebody must have stolen it) so bring your own.

There is a discount for CRT members and another discount when paying in cash. With tax I paid $135 for 3 nights.

The big plus is there is no "walk of shame", no one checking what your girl is wearing and you can probably have 2 as long as it doesn't get too loud.

The only negatives I encountered were no restaurant (easy walk to the Prez) and the two young guys partying above me one night. They finally knocked it off so I let it slide. I mentioned it to Dennis when I was checking out and he said I should have called him. If it had continued I might have but I figured they would settle down eventually (and get down to business since I could hear the chicas giggling up there too).

All in all it was a good alternative for a last-minute room at a very good price. If you don't mind the minor inconvenience of not having your own bathroom you'll find it to be a good choice.
