Hello Darren, my email for this Summer ran into spam related delivery problems. It could be from my end. This is from Veelee. There are some big problems with the way spam filtering works these days. If you don't get anything from me, let me know. You should be able to find somebody to send a PM.

"V"...... if you email Darren through a 3 party email program like Yahoo or Gmail you won't have a problem. On the other hand, Verizon will block anything coming from CR as though it's spam... which is what happened to me.

Did you try the contact feature on the Castillo website?
I would assume that this method would bypass spam filtering.

Sending isn't the problem. It is receiving the email.

:?: Now I'm confused! If you have Darren in your list of contacts & you have sent him mail, wouldn't your ISP allow you to receive mail from him? I know that mine would. Worst case, the message would go into my Junk Mail folder but I could access it from there. It would still come thru.

Do you have some sort of "white list" that limits who you can receive mail from? Do you have to add people to a listing somewhere that your ISP will not filter? My Dad had this sort feature from a previous ISP & it was more of a PITA that it was worth!

I've never had this sort of problem.

Berk answered this correctly, Verizon is likely blocking anything from Costa Rica.

Spam filters work several ways and before it hits your inbox, it's scanned. What you see is stuff that is making it past the ISPs filter.

To keep it simple, every country is assigned IP addresses for in their country. How they distribute them is up to the country. US is the biggest holder of IP addresses. Anyways, there are services that compile these lists and then post them for spam filters to check against as each email is received. If the senders email is coming from a server with an IP address listed in the filter, that email will bounce back to the sender.

Hope that explains everything to ye.

Cheers!

If this is what is happening, how can it be changed. I have sent a few e-mails lately, one to the Castillo, and haven't heard anything.

Use Yahoo, MSN, Gmail or some other 3rd party/web based email program. I have Verizon and they (or did) block all traffic from CR as though it was spam. I can email Darren with Verizon/Outlook Express with no problem. Receiving CR email is another thing. I use Yahoo when I need to contact him.

I had the same problem when trying to book for later this month with the Castillo, no response to mail sent to info@hotelcastillo.biz

I was looking through some stuff & found one of their business cards with a different email addy on it: hotelcastillo@racsa.co.cr; tried it & got an immediate response, so you guys might want to try this as well.

If sending is not the problem, its in the receiving end as I understand, why would using a different e-mail address make a difference?

I don't think any of us really know what the problem is, we're just guessing. What I do know is that I tried for over a week to book using the hotelcastillo.biz address, & Darren, who usually responds within 24 hrs, didn't until I used the other one.

Quite frankly, I don't care what the problem is, I was just sharing how I got around it.

Call them. I did so yesterday. Spoke to Darren directly, and had my reservation in less than 3 minutes. 011-506-2221-5141.

I know exactly what the problem (with Verizon) is as I have already explained it. Verizon uses spam filters BEFORE your Outlook email is downloaded from their servers. Some spam does get through though. Use Yahoo email or whatever internet based email program you choose and your problem is solved. This is not an uncommon problem if your ISP filters your email before it ever gets to you computer based email client like Outlook.

As far as Verizon goes their servers filter one's email before it is downloaded into your computer based email client like Outlook. Verizon is looking for spam and feels like anything coming from CR is just that... spam.

Yahoo or Gmail filters as well, but they dump ALL of it into your spam folder where you can easily take a look at what they have filtered. If need be you can mark any received emails as not spam.

I can see what Verizon filters, but I have to go to their website to check my email. That defeats the purpose of my computer based email client... Outlook Express.

Well, it's a nice theory, but your original post said if you use yahoo, you're ok. I use yahoo, & it most definitely was not working.
