I have stayed at many of the hotels in "gringo gulch" over the past months. The Presidente, the Balmoral, the Holiday Innn, the Gran Hotel Costa Rica and the Sleep Inn. For the discriminating male traveler with "fishing" on his mind, Hotel Freebird is where I have stayed the last 4 times, and as long as there are rooms available, it will always be my first choice. The rooms are quiet, very comfortable, "tica friendly" (no extra $) and abundantly clean. The owner, Dennis is very accomodating and friendly, as well as his staff. I highly suggest this hotel, not only for the best vaule in Costa Rica, but for it's location, and safety. One suggestion, call ahead, they book up quickly!!! |

i never stayed there, but got an email today to my personal email, asking to post a review????It had everybody elses email addreses attached to it. I have asked Admin not to email directly due to personal reasons ( ie WIFE) so this email from Hotel freebird took me by surprise. it specifically mentioned CRT, and how to log on to the site.......personally, i disagree with this form of marketing and invasion of privacy... Paco, I had inquired about a room once........they sent it to about 100 emails, at least the should have made the recipiants undisclosed. Squidface |

It also makes them a spammer under US law. Unless you notify the person that their address is being kept and used for marketing purposes you can't legally do that. Before the CRT lawyers jump me, I know they are a CR business but when you mail into the US you are now held to compliance under US laws. Furthermore, if the server is hosted here in the US, which I am betting is the case, they are definitely held to US law. The guys running the place just need to take a few minutes and invest in a solid and reputable email marketing service and use an online form. It would avoid these kind of issues. Cheers! |

When I sent out the email last night (mass mailing) I had no ideal it would display everyone's email address. I have had BCC explained to me where it hides email addresses. So "if" I ever do another mass mail it will not display email addresses. So, please accept my apologies for this mistake. I do respect your privacy. |

Spanky, Sending one email to 100 people does not make you a spammer. You have to spend out thousands of emails. The orginal sender of the emails are usually hard to pin point because they hack into other peoples servers to send their emails. By law if you send out mass emails you have to inclose a note at the bottom of te email to unsubscribe to future mailings.

One unsolicited email makes you a spammer under Federal Law. It's a real joy to work under. Also, you be shocked how easy it is to trace spam back to the originating server. It is embedded into every email. Email headers can be forged but the originating server won't be. The thing with most spam these days isn't coming from traditional mail servers. Instead it is infected PCs with broadband connections with a simple SMTP server running that spammers use to bulk out their garbage. Read up on Botnets once, the biggest one bulks out something like 20 million emails a day. The owners of these botnets sell out their services to companies looking to send out the spam email. This makes them a tidy profit for doing almost nothing. Now, is Hotel Freebird a spammer? No. In fact, I went back and read his TOS and Privacy Policy posted on his site. He was within the law because it states that he can use email addresses collected to forward information about his business. It also gives information on how to unsubscribe from future mailings. Instead, they guy just messed up on the mailing as he did it manually instead of using a third party email marketing service that hides addresses and so on. It happens and he apologized. I also have exchanged PMs with him and offered up a few suggestions to avoid this happening to him in the future. Cheers! |
