I had the opportunity to stay at Casa Vino last week. The location was initially what really interested me… and living in a private residence style casa was also appealing because the only restrictions are the ones you set… within reason and with respect for the house zand neighbors. Being in Bario Amon and pretty much almost next door to the Clarion was also cool. Even though Casa Vino doesn’t have internet access yet… in less than a minute I could be sitting on the covered veranda of the Clarion and getting on line. The proprietor of CV told mAe that he would have Internet in as soon as ICE could do it. I won’t hold my breath… but CV is determined. I expect it’ll get done in a few weeks.

I initially stayed in the downstairs room. It’s simple and clean… with AC for hot days… a good shower… and cable TV. During commuter time in the AM and PM… the street is busy. However, I found that having the TV on and the fan of the AC quietly humming caused even the louder times of day to be quite tolerable… and I in fact started getting used to it. For the money… with its location and simple elegance… it’s a great bargain at $40.00 per night.

The really cool part of CV is the upstairs suite… complete with a downstairs kitchen, dining area and desk. Upstairs, it’s a bachelor pad that even Charlie Sheen would appreciate. There’s a huge projection TV ( I’m guessing about 12 feet in diagonally. There a nice bedroom, speaker with good bass to plug your MP3 of computer into… a big steam room / shower and great wood floors with plenty of couch for living room games.

I give CV the following ratings based on a 1 – 10 scale.

Accommodations Upstairs: 8.5 (Some high end touches at mid range pricing.
Downstairs: 8.0 (Great value / Everything you need / Like staying at a friends place in a room with private bath and good cable.

Casa Vino is: Thumbs Up!

That internet access has been in a waiting or "pending" state for MANY months...

I firmly believe that it's ICE's fault, but next few weeks is a pipe dream...

Next 2 years is a pipe dream. I'll believe it when I see it.
