Hello all-- Leaving for CR from US during next week. Looking into renting a cell phone before leaving. But also, I am open to renting once I get to CR. Any recommendations based on your experience would be highly appreciated. Jaywalker |

There are a few companies that rent phones. I had good luck with these folks: http://renta4x4incostarica.com/ I think their office is in Grecia, and they were going to meet me at the airport with the phone but we didn't connect there. I ended up calling from the hotel Presidente, and an agent brought the phone to me there. When I left CR I left the phone at the front desk of the HDR, and it got picked up there. It was very convenient. |

This is a popular one... www.cellulartelephonerentals.com Has gotten good reviews, I have never used them personally. |

Have used them now about a dozen times without incident, rate is 9.95 per day, free incoming and outgoing local, free incoming international and $1.25 per minute outgoing international. I will be picking one up from Rico in about 21 hrs... |

Just saw this on Craigslist... http://www.whynotphones.com/index.php Staying at Castillo for 4 nights this weekend, and wouldn't mind having a phone for $10/day (about what I'm saving w my CRT VIP card, BTW). Anyone with recent 1st hand experience w cell rental? Referrals welcome. |

One thing, do not rent a cellphone from the airport. There is this motha F who rents the phone right outside when you leave baggage, he seems like a nice guy but is a total ahole. |

After my last $65 - 8 min phone call from my hotel room. Im going to rent a sims card on my next trip. I got a unlocked GSM phone on ebay for $40 all you need than is to rent the sims card. |

i asked some local Tico on the street if i could use his phone for $40 bucks for 3 days. No deposits, no contracts, no signing anything. I had me a phone for 3 days! I wouldn't suggest you all do that, but hey it worked for me! |
