Post subject:  Exit tax at airport

I searched for this but could not locate any info. Can you pay your exit tax at the airport when you arrive?
Thanks

Yes you can, after clearing customs, walk upstairs to departure level...it is still $26.00 as of 3 weeks ago

Post subject:  They take credit cards for departure tax too.

When you enter the terminal walk to the right. Make the departure tax line first. It moved fairly quick this year.

Me to. I never did understand the wisdom of this. I always take a bag of colones coins up to the departure tax people to pay my fee. It is a great way to get rid of the coins, and they encourage you to do so.

The long lines to pay your departure tax are basically a thing of the past for two reasons.

1. There are now two areas to pay your tax on the departure level at the airport. One on each end of the terminal.

2. There a numerous places to pay the tax off airport. For example: any Banco De Costa Rica (BCR) branch, Banco De Credito, TACA center at the Amon Plaza, Presidente Hotel for guests of the hotel.

Twice in five trips I stopped at the booth just before Immigration to pay the exit tax when Immigration lines were short and I didn't have throngs of people coming behind me. Both times it was for naught, as the lines in the airport terminal upon departure were almost non-existant.

There is a bank across from Parque Espana, go in thru the security checkpoint and take the right side (east) escalator. On the right there is an enclosed area where you can pay the exit tax and exchange currency at the same window. There was no one waiting at 11 am. On the left is a big row of bank tellers that are busy, so dont go there.
It is between the SL and DR if you are walking. It was easy to do it in the morning on the way to Central ave.

This is the INS building. I get my departure tax here also.
