I just wanted to report back because there is a lot of speculation about the Clarion.

First the rooms are fantastic and the service is great.

The breakfast has been downgraded to a continental breakfast only. No more eggs to order :(

I brought about 5 girls in of which 2 registered. When I checked out they presented me with photo copies of both girls ID's. There were NO extra charges on my room :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I do not know if on a go forward basis it is changing but Nixon gave me exactly what he quoted as always.

Did you notice this on your bill (if you paid by credit card)?

From this thread,

https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=20960

Quote:
The standard rooms used to be $70 cash. Now it's $70 + tax (cash or credit), about $81-82. If you pay cash, you'll pay that amount. If you pay by credit card you pay an extra 10%. They will charge your card in Colones, at an exchange rate of 530, instead of about 505. $81 should be about 41,000¢. But at they charged my card, 43,150¢ per night. When my CC converted it back to dollars (using about 500), I ended up paying $87 (an extra $5-6/night). Not a biggie, but I hate getting taken for a fool! Plus, a 3% int'l transaction fee and it's almost $90.

I guess i do not know an answer to that. All I can say is if I decided to go direct to my room no one said a word.

My final bill is in dollars from the Clarion front desk. I had a junior suite so the rate was 90 plus the tax. The tax was 14.75. All were quoted in dollars.

Photocopying and then giving the ID's to you on checkout is an excellent idea on their part.

Mine was in dollars also, but when they charge your CC, they convert it to colones and that's where they get you on the exchange rate.
At the very bottom of the bill, you'll see the total in dollars. One line above it, you'll see the total in colones. Divide the colones by the amount in dollars and that's the exchange rate they used. It was 530 on mine.

FYI-the hotel tax rate is 16.39%.

Update on the Clarion! I am back in country leaving tomorrow. The big news is the complete buffet breakfast is back!

It is served inside now in the room next to the restaurant and made to order eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries and bean and rice are back!

I should also mention this is completely complimentary with your room.

I just completed 2 stays with the clarion within the last month.

I liked it but will keep is as a fourth or fifth option from now on.

I checked out last friday morning but came back around 1PM to see if I could check back in. I looked for Nixon and asked for him and one of the casino guys said he did not work there anymore but would be back later that day.

So I went to the desk and told them I still with the casino and want a room. I get told there are no more regular rooms but I can have a jr suite or suite. I said for $90 and he started to say yes but checked with the back manager and they told him to tell me $100. I said no and left....I got a room at LaAmistad instead. Room 210,which is awesome, for $60 including taxes

A guy named Brian Bowlett is in charge the new management team that runs the hotel. Seems to be a nice guy looking to build more business, but not necessarily catering to us.

Also exchange rate policy for colones has changed its 480 for change only and 490 for casino....Even the del rey give 485 for change!
