One thing you here about constantly in Rio is how often many of the GDPs (Garotas De Programa) go off to stay for extended periods with "boyfriends" in Europe, or even go there to work (i.e., one girl in Solarium this past trip told me she was shortly leaving to go work in Spain for a while). I'm curious why it is so apparently easy for the girls to go to Europe and not here? Are there substantial differences between their passport/Visa requirements and ours? The reason I ask - I would actually consider importing a girl from Rio to hang for a few months if we didn't have to go through all the rigamarole of a fiancee Visa and all that bullshit - after all, I don't intend to marry her - just enjoy her company for a while. Thanks in advance for any assistance. |

The US has the tightest controls on permitting entry, much greater that of any country in Europe. You can't import a girl for a short stay, only get her over as your wife or fiance. In fact, even those can get rejected when they are legitimate applications. On the contrary, it's relatively easy for a garota to jump on a plane to Europe, I don't think they even need a visa if they are going for less than six months. Obviously that's for a tourist but Germany and Spain are particulary easy for GDP's. Time after time, I have heard a garota tell me that she was off to Spain for six months. |

Just a shot in the dark, but don't foreigners need to show employment or education in the US in order to get a visa? Maybe the same is required in Europe but since protitution is legal in some areas maybe it is easier to demonstrate employment ?? |

The EU doesn't require most South American citizens to have a visa. I know I was looking at taking a girl to Amsterdam and she just needed a CR passport. Guess they figure, if they can get the flight there, they have sufficient money to live/leave. However, with the ease of transport to the US, the regulations are a LOT stricter... Oh my...GR thinking of importing a chick. Will miracles never cease.

YES! One could write pages about our visa requirements… You are aware of the BS involved with a K1 (fiancé) visa… a tourist visa requires the individual applying to prove that they will not stay in the US (property ownership or enough $$$ in the bank to show no need)… and a work visa has so many strings involved… Better bet … fly her into Mexico and have her “walk†in… and even that is getting tougher. Best bet … we get a Fogo D’Brasil franchise and say we need to bring in “specialized labor†  …

There's no payout on that bet either - the US has pressured Mexico into implementing another visa program to stop it being a waypoint across the border. |

For women from Brazil and almost all the other Latin American countries that is true. But for some reason Costa Ricans are allowed to visit Mexico for 30 days without a visa. They only need a valid passport. |
