I went to Ecuador last year and just hopped through various Hostels which were really nice. One I remember in particular was called "The Magic Bean". Room cost about $12usd per person with private bathroom and wi-fi. Are there similar places (costs) in San Jose? Do they have tica/chica (whats the difference?) limits or rules?

I am already booked at the Freebird for my stay but still curious.

Never stayed there myself - the website says $15. Do a search - there is more information available.

it's still $10, try to argue for the $10. never stayed there but toured the place several times. the rooms are quite nice for $10. it is a regular hotel, but for hostels check out the area around bakea/jr/New Fantasy. there are several for $10 with 6 beds and around 15 for a private room.

A couple of months ago AM Costa Rica had a "special report" summarizing all the hostels in Costa Rica:

Nice. That AM article hit it spot on. Hostel Pangea has a nice mixed selection of eco/adventure chicks.

Cannot guarantee this but when I returned one night before 10P Dec. 06 the pot smoker on duty (I mean staff on duty) was so mellow and proly real high so would they give you and chit for bringin a novia back??

I like to have my own bathroom and since no cheaper rooms avail., had to take to the penthouse at $36/night but still a great bargain for the location and real nice and spacious room. Walking distance to San Pedro mall and of course close to the gulch.

I just wouldn't try bringin any chicas back during the day. There is a lot more staff around and the owner too. Didn't look chica friendly during the day but at night???
