How long are you looking to stay? What is your monthly budget excluding utilities? How many people are in your group? |

What is your monthly budget excluding utilities? How many people are in your group? I'm looking to MOVE to SJO. I looked at craigslist and Tico times, but mostly found the "look here if your a stupid gringo" ads... I speak decent spanish, am looking to spend at least a few months living in SJO, and have a professional salary. I lived in Havana half of last year, so I should be ok in SJO... |

There are some really nice little apartments around Sabana Park for $400 to $600 a month. Networking is the best way to find them. Also you can look on Criagslist for people that are having moving sales . Ask them how much they pay and get the number of the owner from them. When they move out , you can move in. In CR , I found my last two apartments by WALKING thru the neighborhoods where I wanted to live and looking for signs and talking to people. There are some apartments called Condos Palacio next to the Palacio Hotel in La Uruca. You can rent there for $550 to $650 a month. They are very nice. About 5 years old. The entire property is Gated and secure. There is a back route to the Rey . At night, I could get there or back in about 8-10 minuteds. I enjoyed living there for 9 months. Most everyone agrees that it is a good idea to rent for TWO years before you buy anything here. |

I like the La Uruca neighborhood. The timeshare that I use is located there, and the neighborhood is safe at night for walking. It is far enough away from downtown to be away from the action, but close enough to get there within thirty minutes in bad traffic. Also, the bus runs along the highway near the hotel. |

Fiedler, Does the Scotland have safes in the rooms? Do you think laptops, ipods, electronics would be safe in that complex? What neighborhood is it in? Cuba, Be very cautious of Craigs List. There are rental companies advertising many rentals and they charge a very high "gringo" premium. Honestly, the best way is references here, and getting on the ground there, and checking for yourself. Local newspapers, etc. Many on these boards have likes VistaLinda Apts. and Sudamer Apts. although I have never seen them. Vista has a website. PURA VIDA! |

Post subject: | Florencia condo in Escazu |
The following is a cut and paste of an email i received from a guy named David costaricarentals@hotmail.com . I fould this place on Craig's list. I admit I am leery of meeting a guy giving him $600 cash getting into the place and not knowing how he is connected to it. Would someone please advise. Am I being paranoid. He wants nothing in advance for me to reserve this place. My inclination would be to ask him for some proof that he has the ability to represent who ever owns the property. The condo is ground floor, directly across the street from the small park called Ecazu. The rent is $600 payable to me in cash, dollars or colones. I manage the condo for the owner along with apartments and commercial units in San Jose. Not a management company, just me. I live in San Jose. The taxi driver will pick me up in San Jose on the way to the condo in Escazu along with you from the airport. I will give you the keys at that time upon payment and a brief tour of the area if needed. To confirm, send me your first and last name, flight #, name of airline and time of arrival. The taxi driver will be holding a sign with your name on it outside the airport when you arrive to CR. |

To each his own, I wouldn't do it. I just did a google under Costa Rica Rentals and nothing came up. I would be leary of CL. If it were me, I would go with an established apartments rental office or get there in person and find a place. There are just too many scammers and Gringos living in CR seem to have a real bad rep. amongst other expats. btw, I think you will find better prospects in the CR newspaper classifieds. PURA VIDA! |
