I get frustrated sometimes they way staff in CR handle credit cards. I just sent out an email to a hotel and they asked me to reserve online. So I fill out their little form which was on a secure server. Then they email me back my confirmation with the credit card numbers in full view. I mean what is the point of the secure server if they are just going to email the numbers back.

I remember Presidente hotel used to make me fill out a blank credit card slip for some stupid reason I can't recall. I tried to explain that is like writing a blank check but they didn't understand. In reality it was worse since the charge card had more money on it then my checking account. The explained they tear it up at the end of the trip.

Probably the worst thing that happened is when my ATM card broke. I had to got to the bank and withdraw cash off my charge card. The line at the bank was out the door and down the street.

[quote="Pacifica55"]The credit card I use for reservations and most ATM withdrawals is a dead end. It is not connected to any other account and has little money in it. [quote]

Is this a credit card from a standard bank? Mine continually raise the limit to absurd amounts. I will take a look around at alternatives.

When I am in CR I always limit what I carry with me. And I usually keep cash in more then one location in case it gets stolen. Valuables are always kept in the safe.

I usually call my credit card company and let them know that I will be conducting business in Costa Rica. They have assured me that I am not responsible for any fraudulent purchases.
