You have to book SL about 5-6 months in advance, so I don't think you can walk-up and get a room. It's not a Comfort Inn.

M is a great place but it's expensive, about $200/night.

Not exactly sure why you have confined your options to SL or Hotel M. There certainly are many other hotels to consider from very budget to very high end.

Do some research read the posts, narrow your decision to those that really interest you, then make a reservation.

Good luck.

To answer your question, go online and make your reservations. The SL is a lot cheaper and is CRT central. You can't beat the price per activity. You have a great bar, resturant, persons coming in and out of all hours, a lot more chicas, just the absolute best place to be. The prices range from $49 to $99 a night depending on which room you get.
I was just able to get a room for 3 weeks in January, so it is not all booked up just yet. SuperBowl weekend is all booked. You are very much more closer to all the action, but just on the edge of insanity!!

Hotel M is very expensive compared to most all of the other Hotels but definitely worth a shot if you can shell out approximately $200 a night. The rooms are very new, large, the hospitality is just as good as it gets. 2 blocks walking distance from San Pedro Mall, but further away from the gulch area. Very Very quiet in the daytime and nighttime as well.

Never come to San Jose without a reservation if you can avoid it. Many places will be booked if Holidays or Special Events are close or at hand. If you need any more info on these places, let us know!

Hotel Morazon?

Not a bad place either, cheaper than the others. I do not like it because of the location. It is right in the heart of everything and I think too noisy. Check your PM.

Morazon is a 2 star hotel at best. Not to be compared with SL and certainly not with Hotel M. PLUS, I hate that walk to and from the DR. You are just about garanteed to be hassled by street people every single time.

And priced accordingly. How can you expect a $35.00 a night room to compare with a $200.00 per night room?

I have walked from the Morazan to to the HDR and been hassled by street people just as I have walked from the HDR to KL and from the HDR to the Sleep Inn (Colonial) and been hassled by street people. Why? Because it happens outside the HDR. So the obvious answer is to avoid the HDR not the KL, Sleep Inn or Morazan if that bothers you.

Come on, ID, you can't really compare the two second hustle you get going from the cab to the DR or crossing the street to the KL with the hanging on your sleeve "uno coin, senior" all the way down the street trip. I think you understand what he was saying.

A very stern no usually chases him away and if it doesn't a menacing "get the Phuck away from me" does. I find him easier to fend off then the 4 or 5 people at the HDR door and if you are going to let a street person influence your choice of a hotel you would be better to stay in the suburbs.

Sportsmens Lodge is the clear choice in my book. The environment is great and at Hotel M you are too far out of the scene. I'm sure Hotel M is a great hotel but for your first trip you will be doing yourself a hell of a favor staying at SL.
