Post subject:  Hotel Amistad review by QBF

My arrival to SJ was, again, late in the evening. I didn't have a place to stay, so we drove by the presidente, and parked right outside News Cafe. I turned on my laptop, grabbed the wireless signal, and found their website and called Amistad, and wham, a room.

No point in looking any further, as I've heard great things about them, aside from the construction, I figured it was worth it for the price.

So, away we trot to Amistad.

When we get there it looks like a deserted construction site, but we ring the bell anwyay. We're promptly buzzed in, and the night watchman/manager/whatever he was, greeted us, and was VERY charming and friendly.

We got a "deluxe" room, with AC, on the 3rd floor, and get upstairs, only to find that the internet doesn't work...

This is basically a deal breaker for me in general, but it being late, and me being told I can use their computer downstairs, and me leaving the next morning mean that I cal live with it.

The shower was nice, and the bathroom functional.

The room walls had grafitti on them, The bed was ok, not great, the AC was GREAT!, the TV was tiny, but I didn't use it, except to watch the weather report.

The AC in the room worked very well, and within about 30 min, I had the room at a nice "frigid" by CR standards temperature.

The hotel was mostly empty, and we were the only ones on the 3rd floor.

I went down to use the internet, which worked fine on their computers, but their keyboards stick, and after about 45 min, my fingers hurt from pounding the keys so hard...The whole time I was downstairs the guy who works the table at night was chatting up a storm. When I stopped taking to him, he talked to one of two other guests that were there, and then back to me... He seemed very friendly, although quite lonely, not that I can blame him with those hours... Personally I would have a girl come and take care of me in the off hours if I were him...

After using the internet for a while, I'm off to bed... My girl's already asleep, so I get into bed... DAMN it was uncomfortable! I can't really explain it, but I'll try... The head of the bed was right up against the window, and therefore the curtain. Every time I moved, my head would move the curtain, and either I'd get tangled up, or get a shot of really bright light in my eyes. The pillows felt like soft concrete...although not as heavy... It was, overall, a very uncomfortable night, spent in a tiny bed.

Around 8am, maybe it was like 8:01, construction started. It was loud, and everpresent. People talking/shouting right outside the room, people doing construction work are LOUD!

The breakfast at Amistad was quite good, plentiful, and with quite an extensive menu...

There's a parking lot about a block away from Amistad that has a special deal with Amistad for cheaper parking... I can't honestly remember how much, but it wasn't bad.

Overall, I think that Amistad will be a nice hotel when they've redone the rooms, and finished with construction. For right now, I'll avoid it until their construction is done.

A work in progress. Should be fine when it's done....a viable option.

Matt told me the work should be done at year end and they are getting new beds. I hope he`s right as joker97 and myself will be staying there at the end of Feb for 16 days.
