Does anybody know of any cheap places to rent an SUV? I've been renting from Advantage/Economy the past few trips but for late November (high season), the rates have risen about 135% ($17/day to $40/day) plus mandatory SLI ($20/day)... ![]() ![]() ![]() I did a search and found Andy (Thanks Gringo Malo) who rents cars. Do you have to give your CC to him? What's the deal with him, is he legit? I left him a message. Thanks in advance. |

Man, with the number of trips you take, I might just buy a car and rent it out to you... It'll pay for itself in a month... As long as you don't freakin' crash it.... Oh, but wait, you can't drive stick... Nevermind. ![]() |

It sounds like he rents out his apartment and cell phone as well. I usually go to the concierge at the Clarion and they could almost always get me a deal there. They have their own connections. |

You might want to do a search on welovecostarica.com, as I remember they had less than flattering things to say about renta4x4. I have never rented from them, though |

Orange: Andy is legit and a nice guy. I have gotten cars from him about 4 times so far.If you are calling from the states, he probably will not call you back because of the cost. Just keep trying. He does not deal with credit cards. Only cash. He will check your drivers license and require $300 cash deposit plus the anticipated rental cost. His cars are mostly Hyndais and in decent repair and prices include insurance and road service. He will reimburse for minor repairs. If you have a major breakdown out in Bumbfuck, he is not equiped to bring you a replacement. Talk to him about such things. |

If you don't want a security deposit (he says 700 on the website), nor an insurance deductible, it'll cost you an additional 15/day. qbf. |

So has anyone else tried this rental. 30 a day including insurance is cheap for an suv. I just worry about the deposit. Thrifty has 40 dollars a day including taxes. But I don't know if it includes the insurance. |

The Terios is adequate for the majority of roads and pretty good on gas. Down side is luggage space is limited and will be visible inside the car. |

Luggage being visible is a huge downside. It is almost like leaving the doors open and putting a sign on the car saying "steal my stuff". A lot of theft reported by tourists is the theft of items that were visible from outside the car. I would not rent a car that left my belonging in sight. |
