Post subject:  Manuel Antonio - Costa Verde vs. Verde Mar

I've been a couple of times now to San Jose and Jaco, but I will be heading to Quepos for my first time on Nov30 and will be bringing my colombiana with me for a relaxing little weekend.

I'm considering staying at Verde Mar cause it's right on the beach, and also Costa Verde because it looks really nice for the price. However, I'm thinking no on Costa Verde only because it might be a pain in the ass to get to the beach. Is that the case? Where are the two hotels in relation to each other? Any preferences for one or the other?

Thanks in advance!

We stayed at the Verde Mar Hotel on August 29 & 30. The hotel is a little on dumpy side. There is another hotel right up the street and is beach side also,it's called the Karahe. The Karahe is a little more money, but has free breakfast. However, the hotel is on both sides of the road. The rooms called beachfront at the Karahe are about 100 yards to the beach. The Verde Mar has no restaurant any is run down and dirty. I would not stay there again.

He's right, not as nice as karahe, but Verde mar does have little kitchens which are great to load up on cokes and beer and fruit and coffee and snack stuff. I stayed there alot of times, maybe 20? It's not dumpy by any means. Costa verde is nicer but a pain in the butt to get to the beachif u want to go back and forth. Verde mar and Karahe are the only two realsitic choices that are right on the beach. Lots of nice hotels but most up on the hill near Costa verde.

If you are staying in Manuel Antonio, which would be much better for the beach than Quepos, there is a pretty nice hotel I think called Hotel Manuel Antonio, don't remember the name for sure but it is the last hotel on the road that dead ends into the national park. It has a small bar and restaurant, a couple of computers, the staff is nice and I recall the price was not bad. I've stayed there with my chica a number of times and have been satisfied. It is right on the road directly across from the beach where the big rock islands are at the entrance to the park. It is architecturally similar to a US motel, two stories with stairs and the administrative area a little detached from the rooms. If you want more info reply and I will dig up the number and name and price if I can find it.
