I just landed an hour ago and already got a parking ticket in front of my hotel. I think it's 3750¢. What do I do with it? Does the rental company charge me if I don't pay? There's a sign E with a red circle around it and says "5 MIN HOTEL". I was there less than that. ![]() ![]() |

There's a 5 minute limit in front of the hotel, I was there less than that. I'm not paying. ![]() ![]() Teach you to drive in San Jose. ![]() |

I would be wary about not paying. I have a feeling the rental company will try to screw you. There should be an address on the ticket. I would WALK over there (before your poker game) and just pay it. I can't help but be curious why your driving down there, but be careful and have a nice trip. ![]() |

I would generally recommend against driving in San Jose. If you want to do a day trip the rental companies will deliver to you. I hope you got the max insurance! I wouldn't screw around with the ticket. I do not know the procedure, but your rental company will stick it to you if you give them the opportunity. We are only talking about $7.50. I would recommend calling the company and see if they can help you with it. |

Orange, I received a speeding ticket in Costa Rica and was directed by the officer to pay the fine at the rental car agency when I returned the car. I did and they gave me a receipt for it. I would go ahead and pay the fine when you return the car just to make sure that aren't any charges on your credit card down the road from the rental car agency. |

Orange, I've gotten several tickets in CR. No worries. Just present it to your rental car agent when you return your car. They'll tack on a little more $$$ "juice money" (probably around 1,000 colones) for a processing fee, but that's it. Then they pay the fine. Just make sure to get a receipt, showing that you paid the fine. By the way.... you just got in town and you already got a ticket ?!?!?! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!! Just kiddin' bro. Have a great time! ![]() |

![]() ![]() The ticket represents a little known twist in Costa Rican law. In the US, they give you a ticket if you exceeded 5 minutes. You, however, failed to stay the minimum time (as you have yourself admitted). Guilty as hell, Gringo!!! Ciaociao |

seriously, this explaination is the best I have ever heard in describing CR customs and law. one must think and perhaps walk backwards while in CR. for those of us who's faces already look like our asses, we are halfway there. |

Orange; I got one about a year ago and I was instructed to wait 10 days and then go to any BCR bank and pay it there. Since it was my car and not a rental, I paid and never heard another word. LVSteve |
