I know there has been some bad experience by some on AA but what I experienced tonight I doubt any other airline would do for you.

I am leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow morning. I was checking how full the flights I had were and noticed the fare was $61.00 less than I had paid when I made my reservation. I called AA and they checked, confirmed and immediately credited my CC with the $61.00.

Is that a great airline or what?

Yeah.....that is good service. USAIRWAYS gives a credit voucher in that situation......non transferable and must be used within one year.

Delta used to give a voucher for difference, now they just say "tough luck".

Have fun in Vegas! Let us know how much the chicas cost. :)

I've heard from several people that AA would give a voucher or credit an account in this situation, but the same thing happened to my friend about a year ago, and AA basically told him "tough luck." :?

Maybe you have to be an AAdvantage member. Not sure just a guess.

Exactly why I began my post with "I know there has been some bad experience by some on AA" :D

Tell me why you feel AA cheated you out of miles? Did they invoke some hidden clause or did they just enforce the contract that you agreed to?

Not trying to provoke an argument but think you owe us some explanation why you feel they cheated you out of 400,000 miles.

gotta tell you the question isn't "does AA suck" -- the question is "who sucks less".

I do 75000 actual flight miles each year, almost always short hops to state capitols (which are the worst kind of flights). I'm mid-tier elite (50k+ actual) on both american and united, and I've been elite on northwest, USair, and Delta.

Bottom line? United has the best national network for the flights I actually take, but whenever possible I go with american. I have not had a pleasant united flight in 3 years.

American lets you upgrade for $30 per 500 miles, and it's pretty consistently available. I have yet to see a forced bounce on an american flight.

American has a good network in central america, and world wide. If you're going to bother with the miles game, what you want to do is use them up on transocean flights rather than puddle-jumps.

Oh hell, flame away. I am a fan of AA.

WHEN I JOINED AA advantage, miles didn't expire, miles were useful, miles were nice to have.

At some point they decided that they would expire them.

At some point they decided that unless you took a paid flight with them, they would expire them.

At some point they stopped caring about their members with over 1million miles...

back in the late '90's, I had 1.1 million miles with AA.

I started using up FF miles as best as I could.

I had used up about 500k, and then they yanked 300k miles from me...

That was the start of it...

At some point it got impossible nearly impossible to use miles.

Then I got bad service. Then I got angry attendants who didn't like their customers.

Then they started charging for food on any flight less than 5 hours?????

WTF?

Now I fly continental. They feed me. They treat me like a human being. They try to work with you. The attendants are, for the most part, pleasant.

Is this so hard?

Then I discovered TACA... YES another airline that treats their customers right.

So now I use TACA and CO... I've been with TACA since Aug, and have 60k miles... I get treated like a superstar...

I have 200k on CO, and I still get treated well...

Why can't other airlines do this?

Air France used to, Sabena (belgian airline) used to treat people awesome as well...

Cathay Pacific, if you are under 6 foot is awesome...(I'm not, so flying them is too uncomfortable for me to care what kind of service I'm getting).

Hell, Delta is starting to treat people better now... AA is just crap.

Yes but all you have to do is have some account activity before 18 mos. to keep them active. How hard is that? And it doesn't have to be a paid flight, you could just redeem some miles according to what I've read. You must have had no activity for 36 mos. both times when your miles got "yanked". US Air and United are now also at 18 mos. and I think Delta is 24 mos. I guess you were just not aware that they would expire though and that does suck. :? It is something for us to take note of and pay attention to- when do your miles expire?
Quote:
Add American to the list of airlines that are shortening the lifespan of miles held in customers' frequent-flier accounts. The Dallas Morning News writes that members of AA's "frequent-flier program will lose their miles if they do not have activity in their accounts at least once every 18 months, the carrier has announced. American Airlines has begun notifying participants in the AAdvantage program that as of Dec. 15, they must have some activity to earn or redeem miles over the previous 18 months to keep their miles. The old time window was 36 months."

"We are changing the program to match what most of the other carriers are doing with their programs," AA spokesman Billy Sanez tells the Morning News. Indeed, other traditional carriers have instituted new rules regarding the expiration of customers' frequent-flier miles. USA TODAY reports in a January article that of among the six big traditional U.S. carriers, only Continental does not enforce an expiration date. . As for AA's change, Sanez notes customers can keep accounts active with any type of activity. For example, he tells the Morning News that customers "could donate 250 miles to charity and keep their existing miles valid that way."Posted Jun 04, 2007

Good point Paco! In addition, most airlines will deduct the "oldest" miles from your account first. But it is important to monitor your frequent flyer account, no matter what program you're in.

Here's my .02 cents worth.......
If you know how to use/manipulate the system, you can get the most from your frequent flyer miles. One of the most important things I've found, is that it is very easy to use FF miles, as long as you book trips a few months in advance. For some people, this is difficult to do, but I've used up a ton of miles over the years. In the eyes of the airlines, I'm considered a "mileage whore"!

For example:
In 2004, I made 8 trips to CR, 5 of them were free using AA frequent flyer miles.
In 2005, I made 9 trips to CR, 5 of them were free (using miles).
In 2006, I made 10 trips to CR, 6 of them were free (using miles).
In 2007, I've already made 9 trips to CR, 7 of them were free (using miles) and I still have another free trip scheduled in December.

Yeah, I'm a mileage whore, but I take full advantage of the benefits within the frequent flyer program, and about 2/3 of my trips are free. I love AA's Advantage program, and I'll continue to use it as much as possible. If I remember correctly, RBC100 is also very proficient with the frequent flyer programs. And our own Admin1 has also been around the block a few times with FF miles!

Smoke 'em if ya got 'em !
