Post subject: | Frequent Flyer Programs question |
Is it possible to accrue miles on 2 different airlines' FF programs for the same flight? For example... I'm a member of Taca's and United's FF programs. I always fly Taca and get the miles on my Taca account. United is an air partner of Taca and they say that if you send in copies of boarding passes from air partners, United will credit those miles to their program account. Ideally, I'd like to use the miles I accrue with United to book free flights on Taca, since they're partners. Technically it seems possible but I assume the airlines would have a policy in place to prevent this. Has anybody ever tried this? |

No. I tried this with United and Us Air as they are both Star Alliance. At the time I did not have enough miles to fly free on Us Air but I did on United. So I called Us Air and asked if I could make up the difference with my United miles. I was told no. They require that you use the same airlines miles to book the ticket on a partners flight. Hope I explained that right and it helps you. |

Spanky: You are correct. BUT When you check in on TACA or United or any of their star alliance partners tell them you want your DISTANCIA Account credited (have number handy) and vice/versa on TACA. I flew to Brazil on TAM asked them to credit my DISTANCIA Account and they gladly did and TACA gladly credited (so both accounts were credited) and I flew to Medellin on Avianca and they credited both accounts. Same with Lufthansa and United. |

If you have membership in two partner airline programs just stipulate which program you want the miles credited to when you make your reservation. When TACA and AA were partners I gave AA my Distancia number when I made my reservation. Never had a problem getting the proper credit without any further action on my part. |
