Just wanted to give the latest that I heard about Spirit Airlines....I know some people aren't having issues with them but I called a travel agent over the weekend to see about taking Spirit out of FLL. She told me that over the last 2 weeks, there were 3 cancellations and all three people had packages (Hotel, Car, and tours)....It was ugly. She told me the real problem is that once there is a cancellation, there are no more flights for that day and because Spirit is the cheapest, they are normally full so the following day is not an option.

What am I flying???? You got it - Spirit out of FLL. It won't be the only gambling I will be doing on this trip.

By the way, has anyone found out when the HDR is having the halloween party. They normally have it on a Saturday but since Halloween is on a Wed, I am just wondering?

I recently met a girl here in Florida who used to be a flight attendant with Spirit for about a year. She told me that every employee's #1 complaint was how CHEAP the airline is compared to others. They'd consistently do anything possible to try to cheat flight attendants and crew out of their flying hours. I've also heard several stories from guys I met at the BM about how they had expensive stuff stolen out of their checked baggage when flying Spirit. They all swore off Spirit and now fly American Airlines. As for me, I've flown on Spirit twice. Once was from FLL to the Dominican Republic back in '06 and once was from FLL to CR just two weeks ago. Other than some minor delays and ridiculously long check-in lines out of FLL back in '06, I had basically nothing at all to complain about with either experience. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

I must be blessed too. :D Just completed trip #8 on Spirit. So far no problems. Sometimes check in can take awhile, but I have experienced that with AA and TACA. Last trip was $189.00 total

I hope they gave those they bumped some type of compensation. They should have. Even if they didn't book a package it is too late to cancel most hotels by then and you lose at least one night's hotel cost in SJO.

I'm going from FLL on 12/6 and i've been hearing horror stories for months and am starting to get a little scared about flying on spirit. I know i'll never do this again!

I am on Spirit November 1st. The flight originates in Vegas so I am hoping the long wait problem is isolated to Ft. Lauderdale, where the bags should be checked through. Nonetheless, I will get there 3 hours early, just in case. I can always play slots to pass the time. Maybe win more money for ZB.

Yes the bags should be checked all the way to SJO from LAS but you have to make sure that is the case. LVSteve made those same flights and when he got to FLL found his bag was not checked through. Had he not made sure his bag would have stayed in FLL while he flew on to SJO.

Good rule of thumb.."When flying Spirit assume they have screwed up some way or the other"

There's an article and over 48 comments (mostly complaints) in today's Sun Sentinel reagarding Spirit.

One of the main tips already mentioned in this post is to never check bags. If you want to get your bag only carry it on!!!!!

Thanks for the tip, Irish Drifter. I wish I could carry on my bags, but I will be in CR and Nicaragua for the whole month. Right now I am looking at two good size bags and my surfboard. Hopefully they won't kill me with extra luggage charges. I payed $25 extra for one heavy bag and my board last trip. But Continental wanted $550 + tax for this trip. Spirit was around $300 out the door. So Spirit here I come.

I have always checked my bags on spirit, and have never had a problem. This next trip I am traveling light, so it will be a carryon. I got tired of waiting for bags at airports.
