I am sure many of us have noticed the funny white tent at the Western edge of the taxi way at the SJO airport marked NASA.
Google Earth has a tag saying this is for a NASA U-2 weather plane.
From the size of the tent, or hanger, a C-130 would have a hard time fitting into it, and a U-2 with it's gigantic wingspan could not fit.

Does anyone have an idea of what is housed there?

When I left three weeks ago, I noticed the tent and TWO U-2 planes, one of which was indeed inside the hanger. When I returned to the states, looked it up on the internet. It appears that NASA is using them for high-altitude study of the tropics and the weather patterns. Probably a response to better understand hurricanes, El N*no etc. There was also a DC-8 painted in NASA colors with the University of South Dakota (or was it North). Anyway, that plane is part of another project they have going on down here.
Trust me, the U2 fits in the hanger...I saw it with my own eyes!

NASA did the aerial photos of Central America in 2005. I'm sure a lot of other data was collected in the process.
