I usually stay at the Presidente, but since it is full I booked a room at the Balmoral. Does anyone know if the Balmoral is Chica friendly and if there is a chica fee? I chose it for the location and any suggestions on an alternative that is nice and chica friendly in the Gulch area would be appreciated.

I wouldn't call it chica-friendly. More like chica-tolerant. Reports are that they don't want mongers there, and can be a bit rude and unhelpful.

I'd look for other accommodations. Try La Amistad, Castillo, Amon Plaza.

They have a chica fee. Last I heard it was either $20.00 or $25.00. Even after you pay for the privilege of having a guest there have been reports of a disapproving attitude by the hotel staff.

You do not say what dates you are going to be in Costa Rica. If it is not labor day weekend check out the Del Rey, Sportsman's, Castillo, Amistad, Amon Plaza, Zona Blue, Hotel M, etc.
