It seems that the chica barrings at the Pres. may be getting out of hand. Is the list growing rapidly or does it just seem that way. I just spoke to 2 friends who are staying there and have been having a problem with decent chicas that they have been with before, being denied admittance due to already being on the list. It's hard to believe that the chicas are ALL getting barred for stealing or otherwise starting trouble at the hotel. So that leaves long-term barrings for showing up once in an outfit deemed to be "too provocative" by some low-level clerk. If this is true then the Pres.has stepped up a notch in trying to transform the hotel into total eco-tourists. My friends are going out looking at other places to stay for their next trips. One of these gentlemen has been at the Pres.probably 30-35 trips. They are both CRT Vips but don't post much. |

Its a shame it is a really good hotel. I myself have decided not to stay there anymore after an incident with a chica. "One of the guards came over to us at the elevator and grab her skirt and expressed how short it was. I had already checked her in but he wanted to warn her I guess, but he did it very rudely. I have been to CR 4 times since and haven't stayed there yet and just won't. But like I said it is a great hotel. |

I have never stayed there, but would prefer somewhere that does not make me feel unwated or uncomfortable if I am with a girl. Seems they shoudl decide what kind of hotel they want to be and be that. BKTUNA I am never going home |

I have been staying at the Presidente since Sept 2001 and have always felt it is my home away from home. I can remember the jackhammer noise problem when they were building the rail, the old rooms before they were refurbished. But somehow I feel this "chica problem" is going to get worse to the point where that are not allowed at all. |

Here is the sad thing that I saw on this last trip at the News Cafe. 2 girls walk up to go inside of the News Cafe about 30 minutes from one another. One was a chica and one was a gringa. Both were dressed simular. When the chica came up she had her midrift bearly showing. The News Cafe would not let her in. The Gringa? Just walked right on in. I would rather go to 'The Patio'. This place is far better, IMHO, than the News Cafe. |

Vegas Bob wrote: Is the list growing rapidly or does it just seem that way. Each trip I seem to proposition a couple chicas that are on the list for one reason or another. I think the original policy was they'd get a couple warnings about the dress code before being put on the list. If they get a warning & security stops them at the door and won't let them in then how could they even get on the list if the desk doesn't get their cedula? It's hard to believe that the chicas are ALL getting barred for stealing or otherwise starting trouble at the hotel. BKT, Ideally, maybe there could be a happy middle ground. I don't think they have to be exclusively one or the other. But if fat gringas will keep complaining (that's what I assume started the whole dress code), there can be no middle ground. |

I have stayed at the Presidente at least 20 times and never had a problem. All the front desk and bellmen call me by name now. One thing that helps is to provide liberal propinas to all. On my last trip I gave Jean (the front desk manager) a 10K colones propina for treating me so well. I also take a box of chocolates to Wendy everytime I check in. I always get the rooms I request on time. I also leave a 1000 colones tip for the housekeeper everyday and get a half dozen fresh towels and two full buckets of ice every day. Pura Vida |

I don't think you should have to give $50+ in tips each trip to get good service. |

Orange, You are correct but even a smaller tip goes a LONG way. I think the world is built on tips. At least that is what I learned from one of my childhood classmates who was the nephew of a noted "family member" who was assigned to Saint Louis from Kansas City to take over the family business. |
