I booked a room at the Hotel Del Rey and used my credit card to guaranty my stay. Well, my card was charged $100.00 for the night I stayed there. There was a $200.00 hold on my card that they said would be removed within 5 days. Instead of removing the $200.00 charge I have now been charged another $400.00 charge. This brings my ONE night stay to $700.00. Have not been able to resolve this yet. So, beware when using your credit card to guaranty a room in the Del Rey.

Hang on, I know where you're coming from.

Here is who I talked/emailed to:

Andrea Brenes <abrenes@delreyhotel.com>

try emailing her and ask for a list of the charges to be double checked.

It worked for me, I went from about a grand down to less the four bills on my bill....

iggy... :P

Richards:

I've been staying at the Del Rey several times a year for the past 11 years. In that time I've had only two or three erroneous charges on my bill. All quickly resolved to my satisfaction. One problem I have seen many other people have is when they start charging drinks to their room. On numerous occasions when checking out I have overheard heated arguments about large bar bills charged to the room. I do not have this problem because I do not charge anything to my room.

As suggested contact the reservation people and explain the problem I think you'll find they will resolve it to your satisfaction.

Lee

I'm not saying it's what they do but what's the average married guy going to do, have his wife call and dispute the bill? I bet a lot of erroneous charges from HDR are soon forgotten. ;)

I would have to agree

hotel del rey knows exactly what there are doing

even at the bar.. how many times you hanging having a drink and unless you ask for your change they dont bring it back.. like oh.. sorry about that.. its a numbers games.. one of the security guards there told me that probably half of the patrons forget thier change since the bartender does not bring it back..

with such excellent run place.. like sportsmens, hotel zona blue, etc.. why would anyone stay at the del rey is beyond me.. del rey is for newbies..

Yeah, last trip they shortchanged me a 1000 colones and there was a "oh, so you need your 1000 colones huh mr cheapo" attitude when I showed the change and receipt to the manager.

How can they overcharge 600 bucks for one night? Muy Tico! Oh wait the place is run by gringos, could it be they're such greedy crooks that attitude trickles down to management, bartenders, security & dealers? Naah that can't be it... but the nickname "Den of Thieves" doesn't sound too awfully harsh or inappropriate does it? Like everything else in the gulch-Caveat emptor!

Hey Richards, Whenever I got a hotel, I stayed at the HDR everytime. Never had an issue. One time I made a reservation but decided to go the following weekend. I forgot to call and cancel and they charged me for a night because I never showed up. When I called them on it just to apologize, Susan just applied it to my first night on the weekend I showed up so they will work with you.

I just paid $275 for a room at the Lowes on South Beach so there is no way they the HDR is going to charge $700 for a night...I am not doubting you, I just know its going to be taken care of sooner or later.

I wish the del Rey would refurbish their rooms. New paint, carpet, beds and possibly add a love seat and new flat screen TV. I would really great to get a nice room ( aka SL or Prez ) and then head downstairs..

That is funny they're barely making enough to cover the bills, if they do remodel room rates will probably double. I hear wireless is now 10.00/day and they don't even change the sheets daily unless you request it. :x

That's a rough deal getting overcharged like that. I'd like to know how it turns out. Please drop a post once (or if) you get the issue resolved.

I've stayed there for five trips and never had problems with overcharging. Sure is strange alright.

Yup, WiFi is $10/day...chicas $10/each...no included breakfast, the Del Mar buffet is $10 too. Not sure why I kept going back, but finally wised up and tried other places...gee, all those things are free! :D

My amigo Lee loves the DR going on for 11 years now. Have never ever stayed at the DR. Considering a stay there has never crossed my mind. The Castillo is very friendly, no chica fees, and nobody ever trys to phuck you over. :D
