This past week it was announced that Spirit Air is considering making Tampa a 'hub' for flights to the Carribean and Latin America. Talks are
going on now. It's possible that flights could start as soon as next Spring.
What that means is Tampa would have non-stop flights to San Jose!
YES!!! That is indeed good news. The last non-stop/direct flights from TIA to SJO were on Condor (German), from about 1998 to 2001. Condor was great...direct flights taking about 2.5 hours, for about $250 roundtrip.
I flew them quite a few times. I only hope the Spirit Air/Tampa deal goes thru! That would make the Tampa CRT Chapter members quite happy I'm sure.

I agree tampa would be a great hub as would Orlando. It is much easier for me to get to tampa, than to fight that traffic down to Ft Lauderdale.

miami herald article on Spirit Air in sundays paper 8/5/07

anybody get stuck/delayed?

The carrier, which is based in Miramar, told passengers Saturday the cancellations were due to bad weather up north, but there was speculation it was due to work stoppage by pilots.

Today, travelers should call ahead today before leaving for the airport to make sure their flights have not been canceled.

Spirit's flight information number is 1-800-772-7117 or go to spiritair.com
