How much do taxi drivers make a month? Is it above the average wage rate? Sometimes on my trips I've tipped only 150 colones if it was a 600 colones fare. Is this being too cheap?

I only tip taxi drivers if they take the shortest route or help with bags. Also, always have small bills and change or many will scam you and say they don't have change.

That's my favorite. I guess they assume you are blind because you don't see that cup holder or cup filled with coins for change.

Cheap? It is 25% which is extremely generous. The only tips taxi drivers expect is any small left over change like if the meter is 950 and you give them a 1000 colones note most will let the driver keep the 50 colones. Other than that they do not expect tips. If the fare is exactly 600 then pay them 600 and if you give them a 1000 colones note take the full 400 change.

I have asked the drivers many times how much they make.

Usually they say around 40-50$ for a 12 hr shift. Most work 6 days a week so thats 1000-1200 $ per month. Which is alot of money for a Tico .

It is also one of the most dangerous jobs in CR.

No wonder why they get so much p#ssy.

I don't have any luck with the taxis, always get ripped off, they make big bucks, however, I am willing to pay a little extra for good service. If there are any taxi drivers reading this....I not tipping any more....
