In today's Inside Costa Rica: Good News For Travellers: American Adds Direct Flight From Fort Lauderdale at $179 American Airlines has announced plans for a round-trip daily service between San José and Fort Lauderdale. The service is expected to begin on December 13. American joins Spirit Airlines in providing direct service to the Juan SantamarÃa International airport. Spirit currently has two daily flights between San José and Fort Lauderdale, beginning operations earlier this year with only three flights weekly. Flight 2113 will take off from Fort Lauderdale at 2:30pm local time and fly direct to San José at 4:20pm Local time. Flight 2112 then takes off from San José at 5.25pm local time and arrives in Fort Lauderdale at 9:15pm local time. Florida is two hours behind Costa Rica. The price for a the round trip is quoted on the aa.com website at us$179.00 plus us$60.40 for additional taxes and fees for a total of us$239.40. American customers flying out of Fort Lauderdale currently end up in Los Angeles first and then San José. Wow, sounds like AA is willing to spend a lot of money to hurt Spirit. |

Did anyone actually ever take that flight? |

Shouldn't it become a "how low will you go" fest? Good for consumers. |

Thank you AA. As I sit here in SJO for who knows how long for a late airplane to return to MIA. MIA-SJO has to have the worst record for lateness of all their legs. Usually 2-4 hours. Now I have to sweat the weather at this time of day. |

MIA has to be one of the worst airport terminals to walk thru. FLL is a breeze and I love the cut coral walls in the terminal. As for AA competing for business ? You gotta love free enterprise. |
