Please be advised that Spirit airlines has started serving Costa Rica. This
has caused some regular airlines to bring down their prises. Spirit fares are as low as $300 return. Lets support Spirit so the big fish don't chew them out again.

FYI-There have been a minimum of 25 threads posted about Spirit Airlines since they started flying to SJO, even before they started flying. Do a search, so you can read the reviews about their service.

Occasionally, Spirit has special fares (as low as 8¢ each way + taxes out of FLL). RT ticket for like $125.

Spirit is not so cheap when you want to go anyplace but Ft. Lauderdale from San Jose.

Am looking to go from San Jose to Las Vegas and then return Los Angeles to San Jose. Spirit is $60.00 more than American and that does not include the charge for a checked bag. Spirit also charges for coffee, coke, etc that are free on American. Got to be very careful when comparing fares.

American Airlines is cheaper than Spirit for my roundtrip flight from Chicago to San Jose in August by about $75. I really wanted to fly Spirit! However, being $75 more expensive with fewer flight times, I had to book with AA. I will have to go through Miami where they charge $8-9 per beer at many bars as I wait for my connecting flight. I am thinking about buying many of those little "airplane bottles" of rum and vodka in Chicago. These are allowable in carry-on bags since they are 2oz. I then plan to buy some Diet Coke at the Miami Airport and spike it well!

Udo- with the bar at FLL closing at 9:30 p.m. (Spirit terminal) and not particularly cheap, I would encourage you to enjoy your savings on AA and put that $75 to good use at ZB. I have never tried the airplane mini liquor bottle trick, but have heard good things of it and plan on attempting it tomorrow for my flight to LV.

I flew from Chicago to San Diego in April with a clear quart size bag filled with 2oz mini liquor bottles of rum and vodka. I think I had about 8 bottles. I had no problem in security with these in my carry-on bag that I used to save money at the airport bar. All I purchased were a few Diet Cokes with plenty of ice. I am tired of dropping lots of money at the airport bars! After a couple of drinks, you can easily blow $50 at the bar.
