Does anyone have any current/recent information on the Hotel gran Via? At one time it was a decent option, just a bit outside the Gulch on Avenida Central, just behind the Grand Hotel Costa Rica...supermercado next door, some rooms with balconies, chica-tolerant if not downright friendly, decent restaurant, regular and repeat gringo clientele.

Any recent information? I know that the hotel was sold and was being remodeled.

TIA

Hotel was remodeled, rooms upgraded, air conditioning installed and reopened under the name Hotel El Margato.

Published rates are standard $70.00. deluxe $90.00, Executive Norte $100.00, Executive Sur $120.00. All prices before tax.

All rooms include TV w/cable, telephone, a/c, continental breakfast, welcome cocktail & in room coffee maker.

I spoke to the women at the front desk, this was about 6 months ago, and she quoted a price of about $40.00 for a standard room. I asked about "guests" and while she did seem happy she said yes you could have them no additional charge. WARNING this was 6 months ago and they had just reopened. The policy may have changed if they have gotten busy.
