This was posted today on the Yahoo group "Costa Rica Living. The posters name has been redacted. Quote: hi all, my friends flew in last night on spirit air. no luggage. they
went back to the airport this morning and no one will let them downstairs to look for it. alex (guy in charge) "may be in at 11" and he can take them downstairs to look. if he's not in at 11, he "may be in at 1"... we are supposed to drive back and forth to the airport. the luggage may be there but no one can go downstairs to look and won't let them. does anyone know who to bribe or call? they have plans to leave this morning and drive about the country... muchas gracias, |

Even the Interbus driver who took me back to the airport told me Spirit Airlines was "malo." Word seems to travel fast when customer service is bad. ![]() |

I just came back from airport with my friends who flew in from Fort Laud. on the Sat 11:30 am flight. They arrived but their luggage was still at the Ft. Laud airport. It took till about 3 pm for them to finally come out the departure gate and all they had was a piece of paper telling them to make and fax a letter authorizing Spirit to deliver the luggage Sunday to our house. We faxed the letter at 5pm. We went on an all day train ride Sunday and when we got back, No luggage. We tried calling but got no answer from 6pm to 9pm. This morning called every 15 min from 7 till we left for airport and got no answer. Decided to get to the airport at 11 to see if we could get an answer on luggage. We were told to come back at 1 pm. I live on the east side of San Jose so going back home would mean turning right around and coming back, also taxi fare is not cheap. At 1:00 was told to wait till 1:30 At 1:30 was told to wait till 2 pm Finally, a little after 2 pm people were allowed go in to check on luggage. Original passport is required to be able to get luggage, no copies accepted. It took until about 3pm before we finally got the luggage. It looked like about 8-10 other people also was missing luggage. Spirit had a hand written list of numbers for missing luggage not numerical that was 3 pages long with about 50 numbers on each page that had to be manually checked for each piece of luggage by a policeman on duty. I guess low cost flights means they can’t afford computers to keep track of luggage. No compensation was offered for expenses incurred while trying to get lost luggage. I heard a rumor that airlines in San Jose will not deliver lost luggage to homes only hotels. Anyone know if this is true? |

They wouln't let me go back to try to find it, but nobody was available to help me. I was given a telephone number that was answered by a fat gringa, not too eager to help me. |

Anyone know if this is true? Only experience has been with American. Long story so I will keep it short. "Lost" bag was completely my fault. AA found the bag and delivered it to my house even though they aware it was my fault not theres. Will pay a little more and fly AA or TACA before I give Spirit a dime. |

QBF- man, I am sorry for the inconvenience but Spirit seems to be our only option from FLL until January, and AA's flight is during the day (there). These trips cost me substantially more if I have to use time off to travel to CR. As such, I have to fly that late flight Labor Day weekend, but am takin daytime flight back. |

MIA, I think a legitimate airline is worth the money. Delta or American are MUCH more likely to take care of you than Spirit. Delta once delivered my bags to my hotel even though it was my fault. I grabbed someone else's bag when leaveing an airport limo. I doubt Spirit would do the same. Spend the extra money and stop flying in cropdusters. ![]() Plus, didn't you see where Mr. Pidd got a bunch of miles for being inconvenienced by AA? |

Witkowski- thank you for your thoughts. I am not going to fly to Atlanta so I can fly Delta, or Charlotte for US Air. From FLL (as my post indicated) the only option at present is Spirit until AA begins service to SJO in January. I could fly out of Miami, but that is not particularly convenient. |

Haven't you mentioned that you live on the water? If so, why don't you just sail down? You could stop by Havana for a Mojito! ![]() |

I do not live on the water nor do I own a boat. I do not recall having ever claimed to live on the water. At present travel to Cuba is heavily restricted for U.S residents. It would also probably take quite some time to sail to Costa Rica. |

Back to Spirit's "customer service"...just tried calling them and got a recording stating that due to high call volume they are unable to take my call, try again later. WTF? |

Still getting the same "customer service" at 11 tonight. I'm thinking about taking QBF's advice... |
