Anyone stayed there?

I've seen it from the outside several times, and it looks gorgeous. I've even wanted to go and eat there, but now I'm considering staying there...

Anyone have any intel?

Great restaurant. Good food, white table cloth atmosphere, excellent service and reasonably priced. :D

Rooms start at $100.00 and they are chica intolerant

QBF: I've stayed there on two separate trips with Wing Woman, once in the Gran Suite on the first floor.

First of all, this property is rabid against prostitutes. You won't get past the front door with a pro chica, and attempts to bribe/cajole the staff will likely get you evicted. They're serious about this. Of course, you could still walk to many of the Paseo Colon MPs from there.

The hotel is in an old coffee baron's mansion (hence the hotel name). Rooms are beautifully appointed, often with 19th century antiques. The restaurant is absolutely stellar and priced to match. Typical dinner for two with cocktails and wine will run around $100.00 U.S.

This is one of the few no-smoking hotels I've encountered in C.R., although many rooms have little private patios for smokers, and I do mean private.

This is not an inexpensive hotel, with green season rates for the most basic rooms starting at around $89.00 plus taxes. The staff is very professional, bilingual and friendly (unless you try to bring in a puta).

Hope this helps. BTW, Paul at the front desk is one of the best desk managers I've ever encountered. Great guy.

Thank you all for your insight...

This sounds like a great place to bring the family. Especially if I have to go out and do a little "work" at the office...

A really fine hotel, one of the best. Great ambiance, a very fine restaurant, great staff, nice upstairs hot tub with open roof. Best behavior only, family and couples. Great professional massage in spa, by appt.
A short walk to Oasis, and the great Peruvian eatery near KFC. And 15 -20 to Mercado Central.

Had breakfast there again last Saturday :D Certainly fast becoming my favorite place. Eggs Benedict are absolutely the best anywhere in San Jose. Good price coupled with great service and nice ambiance dining outside on the open air patio. Who could ask for more :?:

In my opinion a must try place when you are in town..

Great Hotel, restaurant is one the best in CR, but no action in the place. It's a little outside the gringo gulch. No ticas allowed, I bribed the night guy once and he went for it but it cost me $50.00 and this was in 2001. If your bringing family its a great place otherwise go there for dinner and stay at the SML...

Heard there has been a major price increase in the restaurant. Egg Benedict , Macadamion nut banana pancakes both a 13% increase. Not a good deal anymore.
