What hotel would you recommend that I stay at in Manuel Antonio/Quepos? Preferably something that is $100/night (including taxes) or less. I'll be staying with a buddy of mine. Any and all info will be appreciated. Thanks!

I stayed at the Hotel Plinio. It is like a treehouse. Each room is 3 stories tall in the forest. They have beautiful exotic wood floors and two walls. The other two walls are all screen and the breeze is great. They have a pool and a great restaurant.

Manuel Antonio strikes me as more of a honeymooners' destination than a monger's paradise. Many hotels are "adults only," and seem to be geared to the couple. I stayed at Hotel Casitas Eclipse (it is "gay friendly") and found it to be a great destination for couples of whatever persuasion.
Having said that, there is one hotel that might fit the bill for a couple of mongers, insofar as there being something to do onsite. That is the Byblos Hotel and Casino.
If I were you, I would google "Manuel Antonio Hotels" and "reviews" together and you will get tripadvisor.com's reviews of the 30 or so hotels in the area. From there you can obtain prices and locations. Frommers.com is a good alternative.
Buenos Suerte.

There is a Best Western (I think) at the very end of the road leading to MA. It is like $60/night. Just take the road to MA and it is THE LAST building before the Park. Walk out the front and hang a left and you are at the entrance of MA. Walk across the road and you are on the beach.

the Babaloo Inn is about half way between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Mar Luna restaurant is directly across the street and a small grocery store and bank are about 1/4 mile south.

Costa Verde is very nice and in your price range off-season. The old building is air conditioned, the new one is not. Odd. This is a big property.

Si Como No is out of your price range, but gorgeous.

Cheap rooms: If you stay in Quepos (4 miles from the M.A. park entrance), you could stay at Hotel Malinche. Very inexpensive, clean and chica-tolerant, just don't ask the nice lady at the front desk to find you a whore. :P Best Western Kamuck is near the water at the foot of Avenida Central, near bars Wacky Wanda's (some working girls) and others. Both the Malinche and Kamuck are very convenient to shopping and banking. The Kamuck has a small casino where one can occasionally find working girls.

We stayed at Hotel California in M.A. I do not recommend it for a couple single guys, but it's also a great "couples" hotel at around $100.00/night during green season.

Hey Cubby,

The hotel Dapanz mentioned is Hotel Manuel Antonio, most conveinent access to the beach, it is indeed at the end of the road in MA.$55-$70 and they like cash sans the tax. El C mentioned Costa Verde, nice property, I did get a dbl with a view for $100 last Oct.(Green Season). Rates appear to be the same. This property was not chica friendly at night, as they have a small militia guarding the front gate. But a 6 pack of Imperial convinced the squad of my well intentioned desire to do charitable work with the local Ticas at night.

If you intend to spend time at the beach and the Park go Hotel MA. If you want a little upscale and a nice place to relax smoke a stogie, drink rum, gamble at Bybillos(sp?) go Costa Verde.

I will be going to manuel antonio tomorrow from san jose. I am booked at the hotel verde mar. It seems pretty cool. Right on the beach with a pool for sixty bucks per night. I will post a review about it later.

Verde mar is a good choice--one of the few directly on the beach, and with a little kitchen to boot. Load up on cokes and coffee and beer at the groceria across from the bus station when u get to town. Lots of rrestaraunts within walkin distance of hotel.

I've stayed at La Posada a couple of times in Manuel. Mike, the owner is American and his place is nice. During the off-season when I stayed the first time, the rate was $60 (cash) per night for one of the nicer rooms. He has some cabanas which may be a bit cheaper, but I stayed in the main house. The upstairs in the main house was $125 a night and is basically a small apartment. Has a full kitchen, 2 bed, 2 bath, 2 fold-out couches and a 50" TV. It's really nice, the breakfast is good and he is very good about helping you out with stuff to do in the area.

Post subject:  my stay in Plinio, Quepos, Manuel Antonio

I stayed three nights at Plinio in March of this year. It was O.K., good diining, room was HOT (sweaty, misquitos) day and night, could be cleaner, and the rate quoted with the "cash" discount had some math errors that I could not get corrected there or after via fax and phone. I won't be back there.
The restaurant next door was very nice, (name with a music theme).
The park was worth a visit, it is well travelled but nice, fabulous beach, great views. Cool Monkeys!
Queopos is a bit gritty, small, great fishing, fun catamaran ride, some very nice restaurants.
Hotel Best Western Kamut, nice place, location, upstairs restaurant with great open view of water, and good food, and prices. A few new aquintances to be made at bar accross the street, it is a small town.

I stayed at the Calista Eclipse and I had the downstairs suite by the pool. I had a great time there. Partied with chicks I met there from the states and brought home a little Nica from the Disco in Quepos. And had the pool all night to ourselves. I'm pretty sure they were under a hundred too in Green Season and dead center for cab rides.
