Actually, the La Gran Via doesn't exist as it was in the past. It was closed, renovated and reopened under a different name. Something like Hotel El Matagata or very close. So, there is a hotel in the location of La Gran Via... the big sign is even still up, but a different named hotel exist. The old Gran Via was my home on many trips. The Hotel Castillo is now my home and wouldn't trade it for anything. Berk..... |

The hotel is still there but with a different name and the price went up. I always used to stay there and I loved it because those guys at the front desk made you and your "dates" feel like you were really welcomed. Oh the memories. I checked it out in may. $49 a night for room and first chica is free. Any additional chicas a day are $25 plus tax( according to the mgr). the old GRAND VIA sign is still there |

YO La Gran: I use to enjoy the "lunch counter" casino bar at the Gran years ago. It was a long counter where patrons would sit on stools and play rummy / blackjack. I believe the minimun bet was 25 or 50 colones. Shit, I played one night for about 6 or 7 hours and ended up with a whopping $20 to #25. for the night. Lots of free vodka though minus propinas. |
