PostPosted: Wed Jun 06, 2007 1:13 pm
Hey all,

I'm looking for a nice, NON-MONGER, hotel with a pool... Preferably closer to the pedestrian streets than further. and, of course inexpensive...

any ideas?

Got a great recommendation for a new place last time in town, but I'm holding out until I get my Labor Day reservation taken care of. You bastards have already booked up Sportsmen's, ZB, etc... :x

More info forthcoming....

Try the Hotel Europa. 2 blocks off the pedestrian street (Ave. Central) with a pool and about as reasonable as the Morazon. Not a monger place.

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn by the Park. It has a pool on the second floor. $89.00 a night including beakfast.

LV... they were as "monger" as a hotel could be 2 years ago. I stayed there. Have they changed?

Hotel Santo Thomas.......on the same street as the INS BUILDING. Non-monger hotel and they have a pool. The owner is a gringo....nice guy. He took me on a tour of the place. Price isn't bad, and seems like a real nice hotel.

Thanks for the input guys!

It's hard to find one of these when you want to travel with your family... I'm sure my parents would FREAK if they saw HDR...

(well, my mom anyway, and my dad would probably have to pretend...)

I guess I'm ideally looking for something that is COMPLETELY the opposite of what I normally look for, which is why I need help finding it...

Eco-friendly, non-monger, family oriented, close to sights, without needing to go by HDR/KL to get to any of them (which is why Holiday Inn is out).

AND I NEED A POOL...

Thanks for the suggestions, and if any more come along, I would love to hear!

Thanks guys!

For some reason, I didn't realize that the Europa was a monger place.
Try the Courtyard bb Marriott out in Escazu or the Best Western in Irazu.
They both have pools.

For my dos colones, in Sabana Sur, 1 block south of the McDonald's is Apartotel ElSesteo. They have a pool (unheated) and a jacuzzi. About 35 rooms in total, half have a kitchen. Modern facilities, free parking, good security, free breakfast. A lot cheaper than the Marriott, and closer to town. Stay a night or longer. No chica fees. But mostly, it's occupied by non mongers, some visiting business people, etc. It was my 1st long term residence in Costa Rica. You can get wireless internet in your room for an additional fee, or access for free in the office. My maid (Blanca) was so good, I tried to get her to clean my new condo.

I do not know why you would rule out the HI. It has everything you laid out in your criteria. There would be no reason to walk by the HDR to get to Avenida Central. As far as the KL it is not open during the day and you could walk by it at night and it seems to be just a bar with music for dancing. If you are out at night you would be taking a cab back to the hotel anyway for safety sake.

The Marriott, Best Western Irazu, Apartotel El. Sesto, etc. are far far away from the pedestrian streets you wanted to be near. The one thing you specified that the HI does not meet is "inexpensive"

Does the CRT $75 per night still apply at the HI. Not bad if you are registering a novia or other family member

I believe the discount is still in effect. However since he is trying to avoid any monger connection not sure he would want to explain what CRT is that allowed him a discount. :P
