Post subject:  Plane change, Luggage makes it? Carryon allowance questions
Greetings:

It's been since 2001 that I have flown. Some health issues have prevented it.

Well, I may be gearing up for a trip to the center of the earth, aka Costa Rica soon.

What I need to know are a few things, please, from you fellow experienced wayfarers.

I take quite a few meds that are critical for me, every day. Too many to get them in a gallon plastic bag in the original containers with sufficient supply for a 2 week trip. That is what my understanding of allowable carryon is.

I guess the first question is what is the chance that my regular luggage will make the plane change in Houston(coming from Denver)?

Second question, do any of you know if Continental allows exceptions for carryon size, etc?

I have been reading of the lousy service of AA and Continental. Any other suggestions? Continental out of Denver is consistently cheapest with only AA as its' occasional better.

I'd like to rent an apartment while I am there, suggestions?

From the TSA (www.TSA.gov) website:

3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.

Additionally, we are continuing to permit prescription liquid medications and other liquids needed by persons with disabilities and medical conditions. This includes:

All prescription and over-the-counter medications (liquids, gels, and aerosols) including KY jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes;

Would they make a big deal if I had a 3.4 oz cologne spray bottle in my zip lock bag? Or do I need to get the 2.5 oz bottle?

I always carry a 3.4 oz bottle of cologne spray in my 1-quart zip-lock bag in my carry on. I never had a "problem", until my most recent trip.

In Miami, the TSA person looked at the bottle, and said that it was more than 3 ounces. I replied - "I know, but it's only 1/2 full". She showed another official, and they let it slide. But regardless, I was surprised that they actually questioned it. Ya just never know...

You lucked out Mucho. I was at TSA check point in PHL and a women had a 3.4 oz bottle of liquid which was half full. TSA told her the actual amount of the liquid was not the determining factor the size of the container was. They confiscated the bottle.

As a post script I thought TSA changed the size to 3.4 oz's as they were getting so much flax because most cologne/perfume bottles are 3.4 oz.

The signage at the security area in DTW yesterday said maximum 3 ounces but that was crossed off and "3.4" in its place

Good info. Thanks guys. I just did a search and it turns out that TSA uses 100ml as the standard of measure. And 100 ml = 3.38140226 US fluid ounces. So 3.4 oz is supposed to be allowed.

I'll see what happens, it's only about 25% full, so I if I lose it, I won't be out more than $10. I'd hate to lose a full bottle. I can always buy a new one in CR (smaller one).

Is cologne expensive in CR? Polo Sport, for example. The 2.5 oz bottle is about $30 here.

They confiscated my 8 oz. bottle of mouthwash with only 2 oz. left in it. I've decided I'm never in such a rush that I can't check my luggage any more. I don't fly for business all that much and hate having to redo the grip just to satisfy the inane rules implemented by the TSA.
