Guys,
I'd never heard or seen a post mentioning the San Jose airport smoking lounge so thought I'd write a quick info/review while I sit here waiting on my delayed flight thinking of the great times I've had the last month.
Anyway, I saw a sign for the lounge near gate 4. Go downstairs and it is a glass enclosed area that looks like a bar. They serve a variety and drink there. I just ate a Papa Johns Pizza. WAY OVER PRICED but a nice atmosphere. There is also a $2 minimum to sit in a chair. Can smoke on entrance ramp for free.
There are plugs in the wall so I've got my laptop and monitor plugged in and surfing like I was at home over the airport wireless.
Great way to kill the last two hours in CR and thought others of us out there who enjoy tobacco might benefit from the knowledge.

Agree - any time I manage to arrive at the airport prior to my typical 55 minutes before flight take-off, I always sneak down to the lounge for a quick beer and cigarette. It's a nice place to reflect, start the mental transition for returning home, log notes on the sessions to enter into my spreadsheet, etc. Particularly enjoyed running into Don Gordo and brother down there a few trips back.

The downstairs lounge at SJO is always a regular stop for me, while waiting to depart. The wi-fi signal is good, and the A/C is usually cranking. Drinks and food are definitely overpriced, but what the hell! It's a smoking lounge at an airport!!!!!

The $2 charge is no big deal, as you'd spend that anyway on a beer or beverage of choice. But I usually like to head upstairs at least 20 minutes prior to boarding, just to hear the Tico playing the acoustic guitar, over by Gate 2. Now that guy can play!

MG

I have always liked the SJO airport and the smoking lounge is one of the reasons why. We once had a cool airport in Charlotte, but apparently smoking in the airport bars caused some some old gringa to cough and now we have no smoking area. Hard to believe they caved into that lame sh*t right in the middle of tobacco road. :x

The smoking lounge is a good place to stop when you arrive as well. Have a smoke and a beer while everyone else is going thru immagration. By the time you have a beer or 2 the line of people is gone and you zip right thru.
