I came across this hotel that was off a link on the SL web page for a listing of Adventure Hotels. One called the Adventure Inn looks interesting. Plus its owned by a fellow Canuck :D

Sounds like a eco-touristy place...not chica friendly I bet. $39.00 weekly rates looks ok.

Here is a link to a website that has quite a few essays written by the owner of the Adventure Inn. He discusses his views of Costa Rican society, specifically the tico mindset. He also talks about ex-pats and the working girls, politics, crime, and the country in general. He is very observant and honest….A little too honest, which he also admits.

Hey! MyRivers, how are things in Canada? We met st the SL when I was there in may.

I stayed at the Adventure Inn for the last 4 days of my CR trip, a friend of mine owns the Bar & Restaurant inside the hotel. Is Chica friendly, but have a guest charge $10 or $20 depending who's is on duty at the desk. Located about halfway between the Gulch and airport.

It is a nice place, a little dated but very clean and comfortable. I did not mind the distance because my friend had a car, as I recall about a $4 taxi ride. Also fairly small, about 35 rooms, great staff, I enjoyed it there, good food, fun watering hole and the hotel is a bit eco-touristy, I met a lot of gringos there, but we had a good time.

If you go there, ask for Hans in the bar. He likes frequenting the Gulch.

Any updates? This seems the best place to stay for a layover between a late arrival to SJO and an early morning flight from Pavas. Expedia rate is $71 double occupancy, less than the rate on their web site.

Stayed there last trip for 2 days. It gives the impression of a semi-remote, private, upper end hotel with a water park. Actually, it's right off the highway in a busy part of the city, pretty far from the gulch, standard/low end motel rooms, the internet only worked when I wondered around outside and upstairs with my laptop. But maybe they put me in a bad room - they lost my reservation (good thing I brought my printed confirmation).

They advertised a water park - what they give you is a free ticket to the local water park that you drive to - be aware that the park is closed certain days of the week (I forget which - Monday?).

Breakfast was average and is included.

If you are after an average hotel closer to the airport - bingo.

Thanks for the review. Since we will arrive from SJO at 10pm and depart for Pavas at 7am, it should not make much difference.

Here is their driect web site: http://www.adventure-inn.com/
