Hi All,
I'm contemplating residing at "hotelnuevojohnson" while staying in the Gulch and was wondering if anyone can let me know if is worthy my time, despite the price being reasonable. Any assistance to this question is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It is a basic local hotel very near Mercado Central in a very local neighborhood. It is a good low cost budget option but a little removed from the gulch though still walking distance in the day but taxi at night. Do a search and you may find a good bit of info.Welcom e to the board by the way. rbc100

http://www.hotelnuevojohnson.com/

they raised the price to the ruinious level of 15 bucks a night.

but, they clean and put out fresh towels everyday.

tip the maid 2 bucks a day and she will take good care of you.

stay away from the side rooms, they are above the street were the fish vendors park each morning.

a taxi ride at night from the gulch is less than 1000 colones with nice tip.

I like it, but now at 15 dollars, i'm looking at cheaper alternatives....hotel asia, right down the street from the Del Rey is about the same price and even closer to the gulch.

last trip, i wandered around the downtown tico hotels and inquired about prices....15 bucks a night for private bathroom and daily cleaning and towels is getting harder and harder to find, short term.

but, the hotel nuevo johnson only has like a 2 dollar chica fee and you can waltz them in 5 at a time if you like.

Calidude, I have searched around downtown for better options but haven't really found anything better. When they riased the bar to $15 it made my long time favorite Vista Linda Apartments at $20 per night look real good with much nicer surroundings and only time I need taxi is late night at about 1500 col.rbc100

Marriott Los Suenos resort is one of the most expensive properties in Costa Rica. Well out of my price range but to compare the Hotel Neuvo Johnson to it is a real mind boggler

Have no idea how much a charter boat is at the Jersey Shore these days but not going to find many boats less than $1000.00 for a full day of deep sea fishing in CR.
