Many of you have probably read this already, but May 15th is the day for the taxi strike. Now the pirate taxis are joining in even though the official red ones (rojos) are striking to show their feelings about the pirates. Just an FYI for those planning to be in country that date. Wile Coyote

Just to clarify a bit. The "porteadores", they are legal taxis who provide door to door service and can not pick you up on the street legally, are the one who are striking along with the red cabs.

The "piratas" (pirates), who are the illegal taxis, are not going to be on strike. They will be working and if the the taxistas and porteadores are successful wth their strike will be the only cabs you can find.

Will the Orange Airport taxis be operating that day? The article doesn't mention them. I have a friend coming in that day.

The announced reasons for the strike are:

The red cabs:........"the porteadores are picking up fares on the street"

The porteadores:...."the red cabs are attempting to get us outlawed"

Seeing how neither of these issues really are of a concern to the "orange cabs" I think they will be operating. Their ability to get around may be hampered if the strikers block some main roads.
