Post subject:  ATL - SJO $330?

Atlanta consumer consultant Clark Howard's newsletter today has a Delta special ATL of $330. As usual this fare is nowhere to be found on the various fare search engines (I found $460 on Zuki.com with flex date search), but I think it is out there somewhere.

If anyone finds it, pls let me know!

TIA.

Don't know for sure about originating in Atlanta, but I am flying through Atlanta from Myrtle Beach in June on Spirit for $369 inclusive. Good deal but necessary to fly on Tuesdays, Thursdays or i believe Saturdays.

If Delta does have $330 it's probably a base price and you ad taxes etc.. His sight also mentions Continental who is having a sale.

Here's the problem with Clark Howard's site: He says you have til a date to purchase the ticket on Continental, for instance. Well, the other day the Continental flight was $405 total and purchase was til 4/25 per his site. This morning(4/15) it is up to about $475. As of the other day AA was not matching either. His site was more or less correct the other day though when Continental was $330(200+130 fuel+ plus airport tax to make it $405).

Quote:
UPDATE! Travel round-trip with Continental to San Jose or Liberia, Costa Rica for $208 on trips completed by May 24. A 7-day advance purchase required. Stay any 3 nights. Travel any available day. Add $65 per direction, fuel surcharge. Purchase by April 25. American matches.

So how do I find that fair now? I don't think it exists.

Here's what he says about Delta, American, NWA:

Quote:
# Purchase these round-trip rates through April 18:
# $330 San Jose, Costa Rica
# $359 Guatemala City
A 7-day advance purchase required. Depart by June 17 or Aug. 16-Dec. 9 or Jan. 14-March 28. Valid Sun.-Fri. each direction for Guatemala City. Depart Sun.-Thurs.; return Mon.-Fri. for CR. Add $30 per direction for other travel days. Add a $130 round-trip fuel surcharge for either destination. No minimum stay required. Valid on Delta with American and Northwest matching.

The Delta flight is pricing out around $459 and is direct so I would take it over the Continental flight now. The American is at $482 so I'd take it over Continental. I would probably rather fly Delta now at 459 than Continental at 405 because Delta is direct, better times, and I get double miles. Strangely though, Delta was higher than $459 the other day when Continental was at 405.

I might wait and check Monday morning in case there is some deviation on the weekend. Just remember, regardless of what Clark Howard ever posts as a price, it's only a base price, IF you can find it.

BTW, I think taxes are BS and arbitrary. On Zuji, a site Clark Howard recommends seaching, AA has a 278 base RT that prices out at 490 with taxes and Delta has a 409 base that prices out at 480 with taxes. Could it really be that much more expensive for AA to make that stop in Miami? I doubt it.

I'm going to try the airlines directly tomorrow and see if they can find the best price. If not, I'm booking the Delta.
