Post subject: | SL new wing |
Simple question for those who may know. I have reservations for the SL for 10 days in May and I just learned my wingman needs to bail. My question is we reserved 2 rooms one of the rooms was the Jr Suite whereas the second room was just a room "in the new wing". This was the room reserved for me. So since my wingman has to bail, should I take the Jr suite? Or would one of the rooms in the new wing better? Thanks in adavance, Cujo |

My dos colones… Now that you have A/C in the Jr. Suite (Felicidad) it is a better option and my favorite room. Much larger than any of the rooms in the new wing (except the Penthouse) Bigger bed (4 post King), and a lot of old time class. I never had noise problems with the hallway or front with the windows shut and found it to be quieter in the morning than most of the rooms in the new wing. Bathroom is a bit small…but the couch is fun to phuck on! ![]() I’m in there Memorial Weekend by my choice! Mendo |

If you can pin them down, I would take "Illusion" in the new wing. I think is is one of the best rooms in town with the jacuzzi. It is the only one of the new rooms, other than the suites that has a jacuzzi. I especially like it as it has a sprayer on a hose that the chicas really like. Even the Presidente spa rooms don't have the sprayer. It too, has a king bed but is not as much square footage. |

Maybe it's just my history (my first seven stays at Sportsmen's were prior to the opening of the new wing), but I still have a fondness for the old section of the hotel. In fact, I just counted up my total nights in the "old section" versus the "new wing" and am amazed at the disparity - 55 total nights in "old section" rooms (primarily Pura Vida and Buena Vida) versus only 15 nights in the new wing. There's just a certain ambience and charm about the old wing rooms that the new wing lacks. Price-wise, most of these rooms remain less expensive as well. And I've always particularly liked the back clubhouse section, where some of the noise issues are mitigated and there's a bit more privacy. That being said, I did opt for the new wing for my four nights coming up there Memorial Day weekend. The noise outside Buena Vida got to me a bit on the last stay. |

GR Have to disagree partially with you a bit on this I know you have me beat in total numbers of days at SL, but I am close. 38 days in the old wing, 14 in the new. As you, being one of the first to ever stay at SL, spending my first four trips in a variety of old wing rooms, including, Buena Vida, Pura Vida, Alegria, Fiesta, Tranquilidad, Amor, Paz and both the Presidente and Jr Suites. Noise issues have always been a problem other than Pura Vida. Maybe I am just a light sleeper, but I do like quiet from 2 AM until 9 AM My last two stays at SL I have been in the new wing rooms Ilusion and Mirador. Needless to say after seeing first hand the new wing from its infancy I will never stay in the Old Wing again. apenas mis dos centavos |

Thanks guys seems like I will opt for my new wing room. Joanna emailed me and told me I will be in the Los Palmas room. Any details there would be good. |

Las Palmas is a very good room. I have stayed in it several times. It is the quietest room on the first level of the new wing (at the end of the small hall just off the bar area). It has ample square footage. As far a noise goes; if you are trying to catch some ZZZZ's and noise is bothering you, go out in the hall and close the glass doors that separate the bar area from the new wing and it will quiet down quite a bit. What I like most about these 1st floor rooms is that there is a floor between you and the Penthouse. I can remember having to take a group of 7 customers to Manuel Antonio (Quepos) on an early Saturday morning trip once... All I can say is that the Penthouse was rockin' all night. I still have nightmares with ZZ Top's "LaGrange" blasting though my skull all night!!! But, hey if you're down mongering, just crash the party and don't worry about it. The bottom line is all the new wing rooms are very good for Costa Rica travel. I also agree with Mendobrew (he and I have similar room tastes), that Felicidad (and Presidente) are great choices now that there is air conditioning in all the rooms. Stinky |
