I will be traveling to San Jose at the beginning of May and will stay there for a week...

Since I will be there for business but I would still like to enjoy the evening life, I would like to find out which hotels are available close to the gulch area and still OK to conduct business and to have meetings with clients.... if you know what I mean....

The last time I was at the Amon Plaza (which was very good) but, unfortunately, the CTR offer is not valid anymore and so the "no tica fee".....

Holiday Inn is nice, but it has a chica fee of USD 25.00, which I consider a real theft....

Is there any other hotels that any of you would recommend still close to the center, with a fair price and, if possible. no chica fee or, at least, not USD 25.-- !!!!!!!! Well if it is really not close to the center is still OK...taxis in CR are not that expensive after all.....

Thank everybody for your input

Easy choice. Presidente meets all your requirements as outlined.

Presidente may be a little close to the action for comfort, or not depending on you and your clients. Personally if I was seriously concerned about my image and having to see mongers and working chicas wandering in and out of the hotel I'd stay elsewhere. I don't know where exactly to suggest though, maybe Best Western? Another option is to stay at the H. Inn or Amon which seem more business class oriented and have your fun at the MPs or short term hotels.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the "no chica fee" at the Clarion Amon Plaza is NOT contingent on you being a CRT member... In other words, no worries on the CRT thing, you won't be charged for kitten visits regardless of CRT or non-CRT booking.

According to previous posts a 25.00 chica fee at the Amon, which was waived with the CRT discount.

Ruff,
There is normally a chica fee at Amon, but it was waved if you booked thru Nixon.

Tip: For those of you who have a novia or regular that stays with you for a few days, if you register her, there won't be a chica fee, the room rate is the same for 2 people, and she'll get a breakfast ticket.

PacoLoco,

you mentioned Best Western....I know there is one in Downtown and one in Irazu (or something like that)....

Did anybody stay at the BW downtown??? Would this be a good place to meet clients???? Can anybody recommend it?? I have heard that the hotel is OK, the only problem is the location..... Thanks again for your comments

Bob;
The BW downtown is in a very bad neighborhood.
Think about the Sportsmans Lodge. It meets a lot of your criteria.

PS: Then there's the Hotel Johnson.

I realize that pictures can be deceiving, but really, the NUEVO JOHNSON doesn't appear too bad on the website. You would certainly think it would have to be worth the ....what?.....$15 per night? :?

How about Casa Vino if it's available? I have not stayed there but I did look in one afternoon while meeting up with a friend. You'd have the run of the house, could hold all your meetings during the day and have the girls over for strip poker every evening. You're right around the corner from Zona Blue, just down the block from New Fantasy, and a 5 - 10 minute walk from SL.

Bob8053, I was not trying to steer you away from the Pres. and feel I should clarify my post. The hotel is great and may be perfect for your needs. What I was getting at is this: it depends on your comfort level with the "downtown activities" around your business clients and the image you might be trying to present. To me the Pres. is more of a tourist & monger hotel than a business-class hotel and although mostly tourists these days and it's usually discreet there may still be a steady stream of working chicas & guys coming and going through the hotel. If your clients are well aware of what goes on downtown and you don't mind your business meetings with them being closer to the action than the Amon or H. Inn (so that you can bring women to your room without chica fees), then the Pres. would be the best choice.
