This week, I too, e-mailed the SL about a room. Four days later, I still have not heard from them.

Bill, the owner of the SL, not only reads this board, but also responded to me by PM.

I received a PM from him this morning about above-mentioned quote. Bill is not only one of the finest men that I have met, but also runs one of the finest business' that I have had the pleasure to have used. I do not say that lightly since in my job I deal with business owners on a daily basis. It is not often that when a problem arises that I hear directly from the owner. One of the many reasons that I choose to stay at the SL

Since I had written the above quote (which is true) on another thread, I am choosing to start this one. I didn't want to hijack another's thread. I also believe that because of what I wrote above, I owe it to Bill to let others know about his response to me personally, via PM. This is truly customer service. It is not how a person reacts when things are going well, but how a person reacts when things are not right that shows much about that person's character.

Not looking for responses, but wanted all to know that my post had been answered, promptly, and personally by Bill.

Health & happiness

Yes, as has been demonstrated on a number of occasions, Bill, along with Eddie at ZB, are two of the very few businessmen in CR who truly understand the value of good public relations and customer satisfaction.

I could point to numerous examples in my experience in CR where exactly the opposite is true, but needless to say, such establishments have already paid in terms of lost patronage and bad PR.

Here's to the continued success of SL and ZB - they definitely deserve it.

I'm not really sure. The first request I sent on AOL. Bill looked through their in-box for the last fourteen days and said he found nothing from me. I went back and my AOL mailbox and it was listed as sent.

On the other thread it was suggested to use Yahoo. I used Yahoo and it was received, and answered almost immediately. Bill went the extra mile and not only answered (from the CRT posting), but personally made the reservation for me. Bill apparently does read this board, and he really does care. He could have responded to the thread, but he chose to PM me directly. I also received an email from one of the staff this morning just to say hello. It was very nice of her to even remember me. This will be my second journey to CR, and if possible, I will always stay at the SL. Not only do I enjoy having my bed 100 feet from the bar stool, but Bill and his staff are the finest of any hotel that I have ever stayed in. As I stated before, it is my Cheers. I would suggest Yahoo (free email account) for responses to CRT.

Also, TACA is $546.92 (which includes taxes) from LAX. This is as low as I have seen it for 8 or 9 months. It is a 2:00 AM departure and a 9:00AM arrival. From SJO departs at 6:15 PM and arrives at 11:30 PM. Both flights are non-stop. No waiting in Dallas for the dreaded AA connecting flight for me this time. I arrive at 9:00 AM instead of 10:00PM (on AA), and I leave at 6:15 PM instead of 9:00 AM. It is like adding two days to the vacation.

Hopefully my stay will include the CRT VIP Party. I would like to meet as many of you as possible.

Health & happiness to all. Now back to reading about poosey........

I have never had a problem/delay when emailing SL.

Most emails are usually answered within a couple of hours, sometimes minutes, but never more than 24 hours.

AOL is notorious for not delivering email when they said they did. It may say SENT, but the recipient may never receive it. Their drivers sometimes get lost on the information super-highway.

Yep, AOL is your problem. There is a warning about them on this board.

IMO SL is hands down the best. Roomed with two of my wingmen and have never been disappointed with service.

Since this thread is a "kudos" thread for the SL, I'll throw in my .02 here.

I stay at the SL every month, and I can honestly say that (IMHO) Bill and his staff are truly the best with customer service. I am always treated like family, and they have gone out of their way to accomodate me with last minute rooms (for wingmen, etc.). I don't e-mail them, I just call them directly on their toll-free number.

I have 2 lockers rented there, and they always give me my CRT discount, along with the $10 discount for each one of my lockers. For my money, there's no other place in SJO to stay. Thanks again to Bill, Johana, and the rest of the SL staff for your continual hospitality. By the way.... anyone know who's got the Penthouse Suite for Labor Day weekend (hint, hint) ?!?!!??! Sorry Ruff! I beat ya to the punch this year !!!! Hee, hee, hee!

Since this is a thread that I started, I want to hijack it, so I won't have to start a new thread.

Before I get flamed to death, I did several searches on CRT, CRT Anniversary Party, Anniversary, with the and/or option, and I never could find an actual date for the CRT Anniversary Party this year. There were many mentions of it, but no actual date that I could find. I probably should have asked this before I booked the room, but being a newbie I'm sure that I appear stupid enough.

My very uneducated guess is Saturday September 1st. Was I close? Thanks for any input.

Health & happiness to all

I've been there numerous times since November and join my two wingmen when they go. Sometimes for business. Sometimes business mixed with pleasure but SL is the best. Top of the line rooms, service, you name it and no I'm not giving you my wingmen's names

Another reason to stay at the SL, at least for me is that no two rooms are alike. Even in the new wing, different rooms have different qualities.
One can stay in different rooms on various visits and enjoy a different ambience, from the old-world, very European style rooms in the older section including a junior suite which features a massive 4-poster king size bed to the Penthouse equipped with jacuzzis (two!) and a sound system. In the new section there's Illusiones which has a jacuzzi. Hermosa is big enough to comfortably entertain a half-dozen people.

All the rooms now have A/C (not a biggie for me). All have minibars, digital keypad safes, direct dial phones...
It's about the variety: Chicas, rums, habanos or hotel rooms, and Sportsmen's gives you variety in your accomodations.

:D

I got two rooms booked at SL for the Anniversary Party... the selections were VERY limited (in the new wing, atleast) when I called two weeks ago... Do make your reservations if you haven't already!!
